SPOILERS/EASTER EGGS What cool little easter eggs have you found so far?

Post by Vixx »

I'm shit at noticing stuff like this most of the time, so let's collaborate on this.

I'm not talking about things we expect to see in the game - certain memos, for instance, or sound cues - but easter eggs to other games, the lore, etc. etc.

So far I've spotted:
  • Mary's room (but why is it in the apartment block??!)
    Henry's apartment

In Texan Cafe, there's a rumpled trench coat hanging on the wall under a painting of a border collie. My partner responded "calling Dick Tracy" upon seeing it.... was that an homage to our favorite pantsless detective?

Woodside!

I can't hotlink from gDrive but here's a snap:

The entire living room is set up the same, too. It's hard to get a full screenshot, but here you go - James is obscuring the sofa:

Neat!

I found that you can go into Heather and Douglas's motel room from SH3.

It's one of the rooms that you can go in at Jack's Inn. A hat that looks just like Douglas's hat is even sitting on a chair in there.

I didn't play SH3 anywhere near as much as 2, so didn't recognise it - hope someone gets a screenshot!

3 was my favorite game back in the days that I had nothing but free time, so I've probably played it more than the rest of the series. lol

Big time spoilers can be found in the background visuals of the inventory screen.

It’s James pillowing Mary in the original videotape. The biggest plot/spoiler of the whole game and you’re watching it from the jump.

They referenced the "It's Bread" meme from the subreddit. When you're sneaking around in the basement of the hotel, you can find a rack of bread in the kitchen area and you get a trophy/achievement for examining it.

I immediately threw my controller at the TV upon seeing that.

Ahem.

We can finally see exactly what [story/background spoiler] what was actually on the manual of the original SILENT HILL 2 booklet: Sure, we knew it was a wall of mannequins, only now we get to see it in action.

Eddie's breath condenses in the air every time he speaks. It's subtle at 1st- he's just been vomiting, could kinda hand wave it as being labored afterwards, or stomach acid on his breath. In the theater, too, but he's eating ice cream, maybe that's changed the temperature a bit in his mouth. But I'm sitting there on the floor in front of the TV going omgomgomgiykyk

Not only are three symbols from the Halo of the Sun included on the Silent Hill Police Department badge, but so is Jennifer Carrol as depicted in the belfry painting, St. Jennifer ~ Unwavering Faith Under Death's Blade.

Some spoilers here. I know, it's been a while :)

James / Mary's home is shown throughout the game. The first time you see it is at Woodside (the last apartment before going to Bluecreek apartments). You see Mary's bedroom, (and hear the gasp upon entering it). The radio is the same one that plays "their song" (that we heard from the jukebox at Neely's Bar) and can be found in BlueCreek OW. You pick up her hanky which triggers the major scene in the game at that point. Oh, you can also see a very specific blanket (used for... another purpose) folded up on their couch!

You also see this same home in the Labyrinth multiple times. It's very clear that its the focus of the game because of what happened there.

Halo of the Sun can be found in the Heather / Douglas hotel room at Jack's Inn behind the peeled away wallpaper if you return here later in the game a 2nd time, before going to Historical Society.

Maria getting sick and needing to lay down in Brookhaven triggers a memory for James. Most likely when Mary first got ill and had to goto the hospital. This is why the rain outside is so important (confirmed in the diary / letter found on the roof), and the poster you see across from Maria's room.

Maria's 2nd death later on in the cell, shows she died from the same disease Mary had (she has the start of the disease). There is a pillow on the floor beside her bed as well.

Freshly dug up grave in the graveyard. This gets covered and has a new headstone on NewGame+.

The clock in the checkout room in Lakeview Hotel is the only clock that is not stuck at the same time as all other clocks.

It has the eye from the Halo of the Sun. James also picks up the book of Crimson Ceremony there.

I forgot there was text on the headstone, as well.

Image

It reads:

There was only one answer to the fury that
tortured him. And so he committed his first
act of murder. He had broken the most
deep-rooted taboo, and found not guilt, not
anxiety or fear, but freedom. Any humiliation
which stood in his way could be swept
aside by the simple act of of annihilation:
Murder.

This is the opening line to Dario Argento's film Tenebrae (1982) — about a serial killer stalking everyone associated with an author's latest book.

This is a reference to the "award-winning" beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Interestingly, the Red Ribbon logo resembles the eye in the Halo of the Sun. . . .
