From what I'm hearing, SH2 has the audio design award in the bag.

Narrative is also a strong contender, though Methaphor could win out. But SH2 could be the strongest for Best Performance from James.

As for action/adventure, Astro Bot and Zelda are no slouches for taking it over SH2, but SH2 is also strong in this area as an overall game.

Score and music could also see competition from Methaphor and FF.

Sadly, no GOTY. Especially when Elden Ring DLC is taking up a spot for debatable reasons...

Loved Erdtree to bits, but that was a completely unserious and undeserved nomination. The Keighleys are progressively more of a joke with every year, but they might as well get the Bill Clinton Rabbi kid to present the award if this is how it's going to be.

I haven't even heard of one of the GOTY nominees before.

It's nice to see my two favorite games from this year (SH2 and FF7R) get a lot of nominations. It would be cool to see them take home some awards.

Seems like Game Award nominations have led to a boost in sales, including a 43% week on week increase for SH2 in Europe.

^I hope sales numbers will reach 2 million soon. That will definitely send a message to Konami that we want more remakes of the classic games.

While remakes of the classic games are exciting, I really hope this reception continues when we start getting the new original titles. Getting some great new Silent Hill games would be awesome.

That's the rub. The SH2 remake had the excellent source material that people already liked to build off of. The real test of the franchise's revival will be how Townfall and especially f are received, I think.

I'd have to strongly disagree.

While the game already had the source material to fall back on, I'd say successfully remaking Silent Hill 2 was a more herculean task than creating a new title from scratch because of the status the original holds. Part of why it endures is because it was so boundary pushing and subsersive back in its day and it would have been really, really easy to fuck that up in a remake. One stray misread with the line delivery or one poorly plotted out character could have unravelled the whole thing but Bloober managed to thread the needle very well. Especially considering how hard it would be to get a game like Silent Hill 2 made these days if the wrong executive took one look at the design doc and decided to reject it - the fact that most of the substance of the game remains intact in the remake is a miracle.

Another consideration is that the chief concern before this remake came out was that they wouldn't afford a certain character's background the sensitivity it needed. This game really needed to stick the landing for a broad segment of the audience - a lot of those pressures don't exist with a brand new title that can just play out on its own terms more or less.

Surprised that the two strong categories for SH2 for best actor and sound went to Hellblade... I discounted it as not much has been talked about it after release, and even Microsoft sent it out to die...

Never played it, but I suppose it makes sense if the Hellblade devs poured more time and effort into the performance-capture and sound considering the nature of the title.

I legit never expected SH2-R to be even "allowed" to be nominated at the Game Awards. We all know why.

So saying that, I was at least happy to see SH2-R be nominated for multiple categories. A step in the right direction.

If SH2-R was to lose out to any game in the audio and performance categories... I'm glad it was Hellblade 2. That was a stunning game, and my 2nd fav game this year (SH2-R my fav of course). The actresses's performance was fantastic and HB2's performance capture and visuals were easily the best of the year. The sound and music was epic and an amazing experience. Do I think it was better than SH2-R for that? No, but they are both pretty much on par with what they delivered. SH2-R had much more "content" regarding the audio and music easily, and it's literal perfection in a way only a SH game can deliver.

Nice. Although they also made Trump person of the year so their judgment isn't always that sound.

It's worth bearing in mind, their "Person of the Year" refers to the most influential - not necessarily their "favorite". Hitler was their Person of the Year multiple times IIRC.

Due to the outsized influence he continues to have on both American and world politics, in addition to the persistent boil on our collective asses he continues to be - he'd probably meet the qualifications.

Nice to see Silent Hill get that level of recognition though - it's a lot more than the original got in its day.

While it was nice for SH2 to get some reconition, I always thought the Game Awards was nothing more than a popularity contest, kinda like those High School yearbook votes for certain categories. All the jocks, preppy girls, popular and "cool" kids naturally won, but doesn't mean they was always the funniest, had the best future ahead of them or anything like that you know?
