"WOW" Moments
In light of the overwhelmingly positive reception of the new SH2 remake, let's talk about some of things we have seen/experienced in the game so far that have genuinely impressed or wowed us.
For me, it was seeing a damaged Lying Figure fall to the ground and actually spread a trail of blood on the ground in the direction it fled. With all the graphics turned up that kind of detail looks AMAZING.

Re: "WOW" Moments
My partner never played the OG, and I've been having them play this for the 1st time. These aren't necessarily all my wow moments, then, but theirs by proxy as well.
- The scraping metal sound seemingly coming from EVERYWHERE in the opening area, just every now and then, had my partner stand up at one point and shout "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT, WHERE IS IT, I DON'T LIKE IT AND IT NEEDS TO STOP" in anxiety.
- We're not even past the theater, and noticing that Eddie's breath is condensing in the air. Tiny detail, but I adore it. They haven't noticed it yet- I'm excited for them to put 2 and 2 together when we play again!
- I'm really loving the moment in Brookhaven where /SPOILER BECAUSE THE PHP CODE ISN'T WORKING you need to move a box to get out of a room through a higher window. Totally coincidentally, I casually commented "I guess we need to look up." Suddenly something crawled across the goddamn ceiling. My partner shouted "THEY'RE ON THE CEILING NOW???? WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE ON THE CEILING NOW??????"
You were missed. You'll be missed. I am missing you.

Haven't finished the gane yet but man oh man did I really enjoy the Abstract Daddy boss fight.
The broken home concept was a fantastic addition to the battle.
Seeing Angela's hiding spots and listening to the past arguments on the TV's before smashing them was a fantastic touch IMO.
They added so much more depth to that part of the game.
Bravo Bloober team.

Re: "WOW" Moments
The abstract daddy fight was the biggest improvement in the whole game IMO for the reasons you outlined.
Re: "WOW" Moments
For me it is visual atmosphere. Running through the foggy town looks fantastic and the lighting when you first enter the hospital is amazing.
Re: "WOW" Moments
I am yet to complete the game (at the Prison currently), but the best surprise so far has been the addition of the new "windy encounters" that happens during the town segments. That is, when the weather currently shifts dramatically and there is an increase of enemies surrounding you. I found this to be extremely well done, because when adding such elements there is always a risk that you'll be heading too much into the action genre. But it was the exact right amount of action without sacrificing the survival horror. I'd much rather call it SUSPENSE, to quote Alfred Hitchcock.
Well done, Bloober Team.

Another Wow moment.....
Beneath the Null Moon ......
IMO, this track is so very important to this part of the game, and the game in general. Akira Yamaoka knocked this one out of the park.... Bass line is gangster....
Oh and Spider-Mannequins...........

Abstract Daddy fight/setpiece and the unexpected Mandarin boss fight were highlights to me.

Eddie's frosted breath is absolutely chef's kiss. Hand's down the best thing they did!

1. The rooftop scene before the final fight. Oscar worthy!
2. A certain secret ending!
3. How the monsters become weak after the VHS.
The whole game has me in a state of wow tbh

Seeing so many other people finally realise how special this franchise is.

Indeed. I'm somewhat active on a Resident Evil forum, and there are some peeps there who are playing the remake and admitting that this is their first ever Silent Hill game. And they love it! That in itself is a WOW moment for me.

Re: "WOW" Moments
I'm loving so many of the big, obvious changes, but there are also many tiny touches that have wowed me.
One example is when James and Maria enter room 106 at Jack's Inn for the first time.
Maria: Mmm... Cozy.
James: This room... There's something wrong with it, I... I think we should leave.
Maria: Oh, loosen up, James. It sure beats running around with those monsters out there.
James: I'm... not so sure.
Chills!

It is clear there are people that love this genre that have never played a Silent Hil game.Jonipoon wrote: ↑17 Oct 2024 >The amount of people experiencing Silent Hill for the 1st time is special to see......

There are tons of people streaming the game, and you can tell it is their 1st experience.

Re: "WOW" Moments
The game has so many little touches that really stand out in its overall design, that work so well.
Spoilers ahead.
One of the standouts is the abstract daddy boss fight, its just so well done. But even the level design added to the experience. Like the clock alerting the enemies in the hospital or releasing the cell doors in the prison, with the alarm blazing. This game was the scariest game i have played in a long time. Not to mention that the atmosphere and sound design are both insanely well done.

Re: "WOW" Moments
- The subtle deceit on Maria's part where she tells the story of the Lady of the Light, where the implication is that the story supposed to allude to James' search for Mary. When we get to the Hiistorical society, we end up finding out a very different version of events - alluding to the Maria ending.
- The more subtle exploration of James' alcoholism. Instead of just walking up to a cabinet in Heaven's Night and having James hand you a bunch of textposition about how he drinks to basically numb himself - the subtle eye movements and microexpressions with Luke Robert's performance just say so much more.
- The subplot in the prison where the Warden becomes increasingly paranoid about an outbreak of the plague in the prison and causes a prison riot to break out, before he eventually just goes completely mad and barricades himself in his office.
- Forcing you to vicariously live out one of Thomas Orosco's violent outbursts by making you go hide in one of the cubby holes in order to progress was a nice touch. There was so much about this subplot in particular that Bloober could have fucked up tremendously.
- Angela was one of the standouts to me, but the derision she treats James with after killing the Abstract Daddy was incredible. The subtle shifts in facial expression in this scene are a show stealer IMO. I felt so fucking awful for her after that scene. It'll be a highway robbery of the highest order if James' and Angela's actors don't get a nod at this year's Game Awards.
- The way James just looks and sounds more and more tired as the game goes along. He sounds like he's someone that's basically half asleep (in a good way) by the time his reunion with Maria happens in the Labyrinth.

I just watched the two new endings. I remember being sad as hell after watching the original Leave ending in 2008, and Bloober hit me just as hard, if not harder. Masterful work.

Anyone notice the movie theatre projector looks very similar to the one in Downpour?
And I really like how James cannot look directly at you when saving at the 9 red square save point before the double PH boss battle.
