Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production

Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
Bloober is a gun-for-hire. And they have no say in release dates outside of finishing it under contract.
The main publisher in control is Konami, though they are also in an exclusivity agreement with PlayStation.
Usually that means that PlayStation is paying the bill for marketing of the title as part of the agreement. Konami general SH streams notwithstanding.
Geoff Keighley is undoubtedly a guy who'd be licking his chops to have a SH2 reveal, but it's also a lower priority than getting the trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 if he could...

Welp, guess I won't be getting that coke...

Because TGA has essentially become the new E3. It's also the final big gaming event for the year, plus it's been a year since the initial announcement.Droo wrote: ↑30 Nov 2023Why TGA in particular?Skele wrote: ↑30 Nov 2023 Konami as the publisher, would normally be tasked to market/advertise this game, but Bloober Team should have their own marketing manager and PR rep in-house that handles news/updates, etc. If Konami has explicitly told them to keep hush then that's sort of concerning. If there's no news at TGA then my hopes for this game won't be very high.
Since there was no news, my guess is maybe it'll be shown during a state of play.

Looks like Sony is confirming it's actually coming this year!

The MGS3 Remake too.

That's concerning... MGS3 didn't seem that far along.
SH2, at least we know had time and looks good graphically.
I doubt that Konami will release both close to each other. So I feel MGS3 will be winter. SH2 in summer.

From what I remember, Delta didn’t start long after SH2R, and is more of a 1:1 remake with the original voice acting.jdnation wrote: ↑04 Jan 2024 The MGS3 Remake too.

Even then. MGS3 is filled with content and Easter eggs. I suspect a lot of that will sadly go missing. It does feel like Konami is rushing it out. But maybe the fact that it is just a facelift over the old code and animations make it simpler, but you'd think they could've put out better trailers than what they've shown. Bluepoint approached Demons' Souls the same way, as did Naughty Dog for The Last of Us, but they demonstrated a lot more quality in the teases.
Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
I thought the MGSD trailers/videos and screenshots look good so far?
I just would like to see more of SH2R soon if it is in fact coming this year.

Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
Well, it was first announced not even a year ago, roughly 7 months. And it sounds like they'd literally just greenlit and started around the reveal time. The last update was 2 months ago, and while it looks nice there wasn't much shown other than a few simple gameplay mechanics and rotations of updated environments.
Demons Souls remake by Bluepoint spent 2 years in development from the beginning of 2018 after releasing Shadow of the Colossus (announced in Summer of 2017), and released end of 2020.
If MGS3 does come out at the end of 2024, then it'll be just under 2 years of dev time. MGS3's scope is bigger than Demon and Shadow. Particularly considering it's many cutscenes and other intricacies.
It's not impossible to pull off, but considering Konami's inability to properly port the PS2 classic, I'm pretty wary...
As for SH2R, I'm guessing we'll get a dedicated State of Play for it a month before launch, as least I hope we do, rather than rely on Konami's marketing. Bloober should at least deliver a good looking game.

You're stating when MGSD began development as if it's a confirmed fact but you're just supposing. We have no idea how long it's been in production, do we?

Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
I recall reading somewhere that development began around the time of the announcement, which is why the teaser trailer was something very early, and also due to using UnReal Engine V. But yes, that could've been merely conjecture.
While not a confirmed source, one reddit thread claims that this has spent 3 years in development.

Like Silent Hill, new MGS projects as well as Castlevania were also being discussed as far back as late 2021. MGS3 Remake was specifically cited in the rumor mill along with the collection which was said to be released first. But nothing stating that it actually began development. Like the SH games, things were still be shopped around.

If the reddit link is correct, then it may check out that environment & asset artists were working on this for awhile, but only recently were these assets finally being put into UnReal Engine, which may have been a late decision and explains the teasers. Konami could've been initially looking into using the old FOX Engine that Metal Gear Survive and PES were running on before deciding to shift to UnReal.

State of Play confirmed for Wednesday with several leakers seeming to indicate SH2R will finally be shown again.

I'm prepared to be let down again, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Only 6 hours until the state of play, I'm with you! I think their will be a new trailer and a release date, at this point there kind of has to be right?!?!?
Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
Its also worth noting today is the 25th anniversary of the first game.

Saw a rumor we might be getting Short Message tonight as well.

Tommy said Dusk Golem claimed that somewhere.

Re: Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production
I know it was addressed on the Discord but thought I'd clarify that on here, too.
SILENT HILL was released in North America on 23 February, 1999. Not 31 January. For some reason that misinformation has been propagated for so long it's just become established as fact.
Only a few hours to go. . . .

The remake doesn't look too bad from what I can tell! No release date yet, strangely, though.

No release date, but the combat looks a lot better than what we got in the original. I'm super pumped for The Short Message, too. Anybody know when that's supposed to go live?
