It's been a wild ride. It's also pretty crazy that we have TWO MORE games coming at some point (that we 100 percent know about).

Going back and re-reading the early days of the rumours is wild. We had so many things completely wrong haha

What's surprising is how much was right.

The critic reviews seem quite positive for Silent Hill 2 Remake, lets hope it sells well too, so we hopefully get more
Re: TWO New SH Games In Development??? (New SH Game Rumours)
So far there's been no press releases about SH2's success.
Comparitively, recent releases like Dragonball, and Metaphor, have done well. Granted, one is a major franchise, the other is by a well loved team, and they are multiplatform.
Anecdotally, Steam statistic numbers seem moderate, and some word from the UK is that retail physical copies are hard to find, so Konami might've underestimated retail demand. We have no idea what PSN digital sales are.
I think good word of mouth will carry it, provided there is stock on shelves, and more master race people upgrade their PCs, as performance on PC has not been good, so players might be waiting for patches, official or otherwise. Or PS5 Pro sales make it a must own.
The marketing may shift to the 'Return to Silent Hill' movie next. So SH2 will continue to be Konami's focus, maybe with some movie DLC like outfits for James and Maria, or some new short playable chapter or something, or just cosmetically changing the foggy world into ash. They could also just release a standalone freebie reskinned promotional demo like The Short Message using Remake's assets.

Re: TWO New SH Games In Development??? (New SH Game Rumours)
I just saw over on the subreddit that it had the 11th highest player base on PS5 last week behind mostly a bunch of live service stuff. So there's some success on that front.
Re: TWO New SH Games In Development??? (New SH Game Rumours)
Update - SH2 debuted at #2 on the UK physical charts, behind Footbal, but ahead of DB and Metaphor!

So it looks like a success and Konami underestimated demand!

It's the 6th best selling PS5 game right now on Canadian Amazon, if you don't count hardware and peripherals.

And that's DESPITE a supply shortage that has seen loooooads of UK fans fail to find physical copies!jdnation wrote: ↑15 Oct 2024 Update - SH2 debuted at #2 on the UK physical charts, behind Footbal, but ahead of DB and Metaphor!

Re: TWO New SH Games In Development??? (New SH Game Rumours)
Kind of crazy looking back that not only did most of the rumors turn out to be true - there was actually double the amount of Silent Hill project than wass being reported on. Even just two games seemed like a bold undertaking at the time.
That said though, I think this time will be looked back on as more of a mixed bag than a full fledged revitalization for the series. We have one genuinely excellent remake and a great underdog story for a studio with a less than stellar record, one demo with Ito and Yamaoka's involvement that was largely forgotten about, one interactive series that was basically laughed at, and potentially one game that could potentially get stuck in development hell.
I certainly hope Townfall and F come to fruition as safely and expeditiously as possible - but they both seem a few years off.
Still, happy to be back here after all these years.

Re: TWO New SH Games In Development??? (New SH Game Rumours)
There didn't seem to be high expectations from anyone about Ascension, which was not even a game. And the free Short Message didn't put anyone off either, so while it had things to criticize, it was overall a pretty neat thing given away for free as a goodwill gesture, which was appreciated. No doubt Konami wanted to try and repeat P.T.'s success in some way as an attention grabber.
Of the 3 that released, Silent Hill 2 Remake was the only one that mattered, and they pulled it off. So things are looking up.
I'm feeling confident that Townfall will release by October next year. It won't be as technically immense or impressive as SH2 Remake, but it'll be judged as a smaller indy affair and I think it'll be a good critical hit, though not as big a commercial hit as SH2 Remake, but I believe Konami has reasonable expectations for that title.
Also I think that Return to Silent Hill will be received at least as well as the original film. Mixed Reviews, but most on the positive side, and audiences being overall positive.
