Silent Hill: Downpour OST Sample - "Downpour Intro"

Post by arthurdepr »

This is a sample of the soundtrack that was posted on the official Silent Hill Facebook page today. After listening to this, I can assume that the soundtrack was indeed in good hands. For me, Daniel Licht did a great job, and the track is also surprisingly beautiful and eerie, somehow. Check it out!

Just came here to post it. Already liking it a million times more than anything Yamaoka did. I always preferred Daniel's body of work over AY's anyhow.

When it changes up at about 3 min 7 seconds, that sounds like good boss music maybe.

I liked the first two minutes of the audio...let's hope the rest of the game has music like this...

It sounds really good, Daniel seems really capable of doing this stuff

I like the first minute or so, but it gets a bit boring after that. There's nothing about it that really stands out to me.

I can't really express my feelings about the track right now. It usually takes time for me to experience the true core of it. For now, it seems meh, but I'm sure that when the time is right- when I complete the game and purchase the full soundtrack, it's going to be awesome as any SH soundtrack.

I like this tune. It isn't fantastic, but it fits with SH pretty well. There are a lot of tracks from AY's OSTs that don't stand out to me either, so I'm fine with this.

I listened to probably the first minute and a half of this, which I was tempted not to do because I want the complete impact of the game when I first play it - that means, for the most part, no watching demos being played or listening to in-game tracks before I play the game. I couldn't help myself. And, I really liked what I heard! :) It's haunting and has beautiful chords, and it sounds like a good track for the game.

I'm enjoying it a lot more than most of Akira's later stuff. (SH4+ basically). Especially the opening 30 and the closing 45 seconds or so. Definitely some Dexter vibes, but I suppose that's just Licht's style.

I don't know... it's not really doing anything for me. The tone seems about right for a Silent Hill game, more or less, but it's uninteresting and seems kind of forgettable. I think even Akira's later work is better than this. Not that it's terrible; just a little bland.

I look forward to hearing the tracks in-game & seeing how they fit, what kind of emotion they invokes, etc.

This is pretty awesome, since licht has been doing music for ever it kind of shows. Isn't yamaoka a designer turned musician? The textures of licht are more full. Yamaoka is more minimalistic. Maybe that's a culture thing, east asian music traditionally is more about the melody, western has more emphasis on the rhythm. For the most part.

Needless to say they are both great composers. Each for their own respective reasons. :D

I'm going to judge a whole video game soundtrack just based off of four and a half minutes of it

I was skeptical about Yamaoka not doing the soundtrack, but this sample shows that Licht can create an atmosphere based on sound alone just as much as Yamaoka.

This is an intro and should taken as such. It's time the Silent Hill franchise evolves and I hope his music helps carry it in a new and better direction for the sake of its audience who deserves better installments than it's been getting.

Haha no, I just figured it was only a matter of time before someone did. I like the track; it's minimal. Looking forward to hearing the rest

Exactly. You can really feel the melancholic pulse, similiar to Blood Theme. It reminds me a lot of it.
