Silent Hill Heaven

I was watching some videos about Silent Hill 2 the other day and it made me wonder. During the scene on the videotape where you can see James smothering Mary, I was wondering how he got that camera angle on tape?



Did he hang the camcorder from the ceiling or something? If he did, did he do it solely to capture him taking Mary's life? Like, how long in advance did he know he was going to kill her?

I've never seen any explanation for this, what do you guys think?

I don't think there's any actual videotape. It's a suppressed memory that the town is forcing him to confront, the tapes just a way of doing this.

Seriously, though, if James actually recorded himself doing that, it would remove any and all ambiguity from his situation. He'd just be a sick fuck, at that point.

The first part, where Mary's gazing at the window, is real stuff, James filmed it. But if you watch closer, as she starts caughing, the display progressively changes picture as though someone recorded over this part and that's actually the town manifesting it, no one recorded it (you can see that it's also more blurry than the first frame)- simbolically as if he forgot that he had recorded over his happy memories tape and these ended up being replaced with a nightmare, similiarly as when the world starts shifting to the Otherworld.

Indeed, which would suggest that either (1) The tape was not real. Just as Silent Hill's alternate form was a manifestation of his own borderline psychosis, the tape was a manifestation of the buried truth OR (2) James had an accomplice record the murder because he was a sick weirdo.

I'm going with #1.

The awkward camera angle, the blurry and scattered images, the white noise, it's all done to make the viewer feel uncomfortable. It symbolizes James's shock and him finally confronting his demons.
