I guess you have to play the game to get a feel... ppl make all kinds of "levels" from x-men to star trek. even shopping malls and high schools (bad idea)

The screenshot? Or did you download and try it? If you mean the screenshot, I assume that's just a teaser to build interest. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Counter Strike is currently the most played online game on the PC, and has been for over 7 years.

A Silent Hill map? Nah.. I don't think anyone could pull a good one off, and it would be too fast paced to seem SH'ish.

Weird. I was actually thinking of something similar lately.
I was making a list of levels I'd like to see in a FPS. (The ones that dont infringe on copyright, I'd hope to put foward if I ever get into a good position within the industry).

It wasnt CS though. CS is really fast running/shooting etc.

This idea didnt make the list, as its totally impractical, but its oh so cool:

Basic firearms, like Silent Hills Pistols, and Shotguns (and there Radios), and then like 4 players, each of which start off at different corners of Silent Hill. VERY FAR APART. Ammo is sparce.

There 'comms' can only reach a certain distance, rather than being full-distance.
So, people can hear each other talk/scream/shout, but do not necessarily have to work together.

And basically one person plays as the Gamesmaster kinda thing, who places/controls monsters throghout the town, allowing you to place monsters in scary places, including the bulltet-proof Pyramid Head.

Like I said, impractical, but it'd be so cool to do with a bunch of mates.

PS: If you steal my idea, I will fight you. That is no lie.

It brings to mind, "What would happen if a small band or group of Mercs/Taskforce landed in Silent Hill?"
.
...Hmm...Seems like it would be something like "F.E.A.R."...or something. :P
Value your failures more than your successes. Successes only last until someone screws them up. Failures are forever. She left...and...I'm lost.

Actually, this forum design was originally a design for Counter Strike.

http://www.freestylexl.com/demo/index.php?style=cs_red

Also, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt there is a map dedicated to Silent Hill.

I'm an avid CS: Source player (and before that, plain old CS). and I've stumbled across Mario, McDonalds, BestBuy, Tetris, Etc... but never have I seen anything for Silent Hill. What do you expect anyway?

Me?

Just the town I guess. All foggy and that.
Like I said before though, it wouldnt be very good, what with the fast paced nature of the game.

The way I see it, is that FPS MOD makers do these reference levels just for the thril of it. Like, people got exited about one screenshot of the SH lelvel to UT -04 So the main thing is to see what it looks like and is there familiar things of the original game (in this example SH)

That's it for me anyway, I don't like to play these kind of levels for real in the FPS games, it's just a curiosity.

Why not play them?
Even if you did it alone, just to have a look around.

I find custom levels can be really cool, if, for example, you're playing with people you know, and stick to a set of rules.
For example: In a Silent Hill level, no running round guns blazing at nothing shouting "PWNED". If you're in a group of people who want to get the same experience as you from a custom level, they can be keeewl.

EDIT: In that sense, its more like playing in the game, rather than playing the game. If you get what I mean.

Anyone know where to get the ScreenNoise mutator that was designed to go with this map? The site linked in the ataricommunity thread about it, seems to no longer exist.
