Here's all the Sony/Sonic Foundry libraries that I have:

Image

Out of those, I've only ever found what has been posted here. There's probably (almost certainly) more stuff in those libraries that Yamaoka used, but I don't have the patience to thoroughly sift through all 20GB! lol

This weekend I'll have some spare time, so I might try to have another look. Maybe something new will turn up. :)

^ What type of vocals are you interested in? If you're wanting choir-type stuff, I'd really recommend Symphony of Voices (disc 2) from Spectrasonics. The solo female sopranos from that library are my absolute favorite. Slap a little reverb on them and they sound wonderful. I used them on this track (0:48).

I'm lookin for choir type stuff as well as something along the lines of the now-cliché "moaning woman" made famous by Hans Zimmer's Gladiator soundtrack (and even used to a lesser extent by Yamaoka in Homecoming)

Anyone knows the sample of the pad on Hibernation/Woods Explorer 2? That "icy pad/melody" beats on my mind everytime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOj-9jnxI9E

I found one new sample that hasn't been mentioned yet. The metallic/pipe-sounding hit used on Ordinary Vanity (and HERE) is from the Sony library "Twisted Reality". You can download the sample (from the demos on the Sony site) HERE. Yamaoka plays the sample at a much lower pitch.

I believe Revelations of the Past made some new finds as well.

Been playing half life ep 1 co op (synergy) with my friend lately and I found that this song uses a sample used in Leonards battle. The squeak distorted guitar sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlrOBiZT43o 0:47 is when it starts.

Watching the movie "The Mothman Prophecies" on netflix and im hearing a lot of Shattered Memories samples/Cuckooland: Asylum. Samples like the beginning of "RawShock" and the little beat that plays when you come towards and item or somthing. OH and also SH3 Leonards boss theme. The squeaky distorted guitar sound! =D I can't really pay attention to the movie with it constantly reminding me about SH! XD

When I first started discovering this stuff, I kinda felt the same way. I was mostly a bit disappointed. I still think that Yamaoka is good at what he does, but a lot of what he does is just layering loops and samples.

Oh. Well most people use sample librarys especially for movies. Im pretty positive he did all the piano stuff and even played the synths sound like a piano.

With songs like these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Qed0m3Nw5I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LB7LZZG ... re=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx1XJycg ... re=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulwVN4Lk ... re=related

And so on; he's still a frickin' genius, end of discussion!
Let's get back to finding some more samples instead.
And speaking of samples, this is what VIVI found:

1. "Music FX 420" from "260db: The Drum and Bass Interface"
The opening pad from "Alone in the Town" which seem to have been somewhat modified.

By the way, after discovering this, I started making a remix of the song which can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A-6t1LgTpo (or here: http://snd.sc/xcRikB). I'm also working on a second, extended version of the track too.
Currently filming my fan film called "SILENT HILL: BLACKOUT".

Not being a sample master, I can't say with certainty this isn't perhaps a coinci-synth, but I'm pretty the song "Ice" from SHATTERED MEMORIES uses the same pad/whatever as Blackfilm uses in its opening track "Come & See."
This post is the property of its author and is not to be used elsewhere without explicit permission from the author.

. . . AND THAT'S THAT.

^ Speaking of that "Ice" sound, that same opening sample is also used in Half-Life 2 (at a different pitch) and it also plays in the film 28 Days Later, at one point.

It seems to be quite the popular sample!

Also, speaking of 28 Days Later, at 0:50 of "The Beginning", you'll hear the same pad that Yamaoka used in "A Stray Child". :)
