What you mean??? If you watched the movie you should know it. They are Christabella's followers.

yeah... fitting into the imaginary "mining" history that the movie took.

they used to use canaries as a warning sign. the birds would freak out or just die from noxious gases, so the miners would know to leave the area.

So they just exist in the movie? Not in any games?

perhaps too.. the birds signify the butter flys that we saw throughout sh2.. of course why wouldn't gans just use butterflys.. Well as Gans himself said.. there are the games.. and this was a "movie".. and in order to do a movie.. it isnt a good idea to do the movie exactly like the games.. because in the games, there are too many puzzle elements.. that would become a bit boring on a big screen for just regular movie goers.... So the reason the movie is slightly different from the games.. is because it's suppose to be a slightly different story anyway... that way it's not the same thing we've all seen before.. a compramise of sorts... I believe Gans did this to invite regular fans of the games.. as well as introducing silent hill, In a slightly different way to those who haven't seen it before. But again the birds could have been something similar to the butterflys we saw in sh2.. signalling the curse on the town..
The only way for evil to continue, is for good men to do nothing!!!!

I highly doubt that. Butterflys/moths had a direct meaning in the games. The birds are just in the movie to alert the miners of the otherworld like the radio alerts the characters in the game. Nothing more.

Well I dont think the birds identified noxious gases, more of knowing when the otherworld change was coming. Because all the birds flew to the church when the monsters came, then they rang the warning siren.

Correct me if im wrong, this is only my view.

Animals have a very acute sense of danger. For example, before the tsunami hit Thailand in 2004, it was reported that cats & dogs were seen running to higher areas of land.

I can also see how people can relate the bird to how miner's used Canaries, especially by the way the followers are dressed.

So, the relation with the birds and the gasses only applys to the mines, but,

the "followers" with the miner uniforms used them to avoid the otherworld?

Just to clarify, after which this topic is resolved.

No, they were talking about in real life. In the olden days before electronic detectors they used canaries to warn miners. In the movie, they use it to warn them of the "Darkness" aka Otherworld.

Notice that caged canaries are also used as evil detectors in a book called "The MIDWICH cuckoos" → http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Midwich_Cuckoos

Dunno if it's a coincidence or not.
