Re: Your favorite ending and why.
I don't dislike "In-Water" because it's realistic or unrealistic. I dislike it because it makes everything James did pointless.

Re: Theory based on how Rebirth could have panned out.
It didn't feel cheesy to me. It felt deeply unsettling. I don't know what the future holds for Jamesie once he starts the Crimson Ceremony, but one way or the other, it won't be good.

Re: 'In Water' and the evidence that I believe makes it poss
I agree, the Dog and UFO endings should not be considered to be in any way canonical. They just exist to provide a lighthearted counterpoint to a dark and scary game, one that does not offer an actual happy ending.

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
Do you know what I really hated about the game?? No weapon upgrade... HAving the same lame guns alone all the game was so tedious... Well, technically, the shotgun in the second episode and the hunting rifle in the third were weapon upgrades of sorts. However, the rifle is pretty dismal. When I pla...

Re: Does maria ruin the game?
Maria is a facet of the Silent Hill 2 experience, counterbalanced by Pyramid Head on the other side: both are creations of James's psyche, generated for the purpose of punishing himself. Because they are opposite sides of the same coin, one is almost pointless without the other. In an alternative th...

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
A lot of the things you are complaining about, such as disorientation, confusion, and changes to the world that don't make a lot of sense, are actually an integral part of the Silent Hill experience (just like the bizarre sounds, freakish and disgusting-looking monsters, and disturbing locations). Y...

Re: Is the town itself being renamed to 'Silent Hills'?
From what I saw in the teaser, I have two possible theories, one "horizontal" and one "vertical". HORIZONTAL THEORY: There are a near-infinite number of parallel universes, each a little different. When you're passing through that door, you're transported to a different reality, ...

Re: A much more depressing interpretation of the endings
That's a fascinating interpretation... Not sure if spoiler tags are necessary in a 13-year-old game, but I'll follow your example. LEAVE: The general interpretation is that this ending features James totally taking responsibility for his actions, that he regards his "second chance" as an a...

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
1. Pyramid Head is scary because he's unstoppable, terrifyingly inhuman, and sexually degenerate. And mask or no, he can see you just fine. 2. James wants Mary. And on some level, he knows Maria ain't frickin' real. In one of the endings, he DOES try to seduce her: he still knows she isn't real, he ...

Re: Your favorite ending and why.
I think what you mean is that in "In-Water", you know what happens. You may not like the answer you get, but at least you get an answer. James is dead. I think that "Maria" is actually sort of similar: the evidence suggests that Maria will get sick the way Mary did, and the event...

Re: Kojima: "Silent Hill S could be open world"
A linear game is nice enough while it lasts. 25 hours... 50 maybe. Then, it gets tiresome. A good open world game might be good for 300-500 or more. I put 1100 hrs into Skyrim.

Re: Adopting Laura
There is that. Consider the following, for what it's worth. There are five James/Laura encounters in the game, six if "Leave" is attained. This is my interpretation of them. The first: Very unfriendly. Laura lashes out at James without provocation. She dislikes him very much because of her...

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
Imagine a modern version of SH2 that had a gruesome, visceral, "up close and personal" combat system. Description of a typical fight: James, wooden plank in hand, encounters a straitjacket monster, which staggers rapidly toward him. James does not want a fight with this thing, so he turns ...

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
I'm not saying PH has to be doing handsprings or anything. However, in the game, James moves like a pregnant walrus with a broken flipper, so PH can be slow and clunky, no problem. If James is made more agile, PH needs to be quicker to compensate. If Jason were not capable of reasonably fast movemen...

Re: Kojima: "Silent Hill S could be open world"
My normal gaming preference is open-world games; Silent Hill is one of the exceptions to the rule. If they're really making an open-world Silent Hill game, that could be very exciting indeed.

Re: Cheryl is in Denial ending + Wicked and Weak ending?
I think all the possible endings can probably be found on Youtube, if you just want to see what happens. I think my first ending was Wicked and Weak, probably due to my AS-fueled answers to Dr. K's test questions. But I think I had Harry freeze... pretty sure I didn't have Cheryl and her mom reconci...

Re: Theory based on how Rebirth could have panned out.
I always liked the idea that he just gets Mary as a baby straight up. Me too, though for me it was more an absurd thought than anything else (I have a Rejected Ending on the subject). Maybe because I didn't really like thinking of the idea of James wanting his wife, but getting back a helpless infa...

Re: Is Silent Hill 2 Really as Bad as They Say?
There are some things I'd change about SH2. For one thing, its combat system is pretty awful, which can break immersion. I'd love to see it remade with more fluid and natural combat, and of course more threatening monsters to compensate. The only thing scarier than a slow, lumbering, unstoppable Pyr...

Re: 'In Water' and the evidence that I believe makes it poss
Leave, Maria, In-Water, and Rebirth... they're all possible. They're all canonical. They're all equally true. And they're all equally untrue. It's like the famed story "The Lady or the Tiger": there is no "true" ending. It is true that Born From a Wish connects with concepts feat...

My problem was with the Dual PH's. I got seriously lunched by those guys, playing SH2 on Hard. Never did manage to get past them. Is there a trick to it?
