Ive just realised something....
How is it that Harry can get killed by just one monster so easily (he doesnt even look like he gets out of the chair), when hes able to fight his way through SH1 and defeat a god?
Wouldn't he be able to defend himself or at least be on his guard (I doubt someone who went through SH1 would die so easily)
a) He's passed fifty years old.
b) He doesn't have a weapon.
c) He's not pumping with adrenaline in an attempt to save his daughter from God-only-knows what.

Huh? :?

This thread is marked *spoilers* so I won't tag anything.

Heather is 17, correct? She is the baby Harry gets at the end of SH1, correct? I've always assumed Harry was mid to late 20s in SH1, correct? So, how is 27(or so)+17 greater than 50? It's 44, by the way.

Unless you have documented evidence that Harry is 35 or so?

But still isn't a bit of a bad way to go for the hero of SH1 to just be
Killed by one monster which Heather deals with at ease (well not at ease must have been scary but you know what I mean) I just think Harry should of had a more heroic death
Sorry. He's forty-nine to fifty. In Silent Hill 1, he's thirty-two, but we don't know what month he's born in, so he could technically be fifty. Either way: he's much older than he was.

According to the SH1 manual, Mr. Mason is 32 years old. Silent Hill 3 takes place 17 years later. That makes him 49 going on 50 at the time of his death.

Yeah just read the manual, he's 32. Which would make 49. Bah.

Yeah but he doesn't look that much older and even so he should have been able to atleast get out of his chair when
As he is stabbed through the chest he must have seen his attacker and tried to do something...also when Douglas gives Heather her father's account fo what happens in SH1 he says he got it from Harry's hand but when you see the body he isnt holding anything?
I checked by the way :?
Thats true maybe he just let himself finally rest...does he and Claudia ever talk or anything before she sets her monster on him or is it just the monster barges in a stabs him  :?

I certainly do not think he'd give up, never while his daughter was in danger, and the presence of anything to do with The Order would automatically qualify as a danger that he would immediately identify.

He was almost certainly taken by surprise. Years of relative peace may have made him slightly complacent, even with his slightly paranoid tendencies (the stun guns, the pendant, name and location changes).

It is plain and simple and already stated.
17 yaers have passed, and Harry has appearently
moved on with his life. If in these circumstances
would you yourself be on gaurd every day of your life?
Like prior stated he had not the drive to find his daughter
plus he probably thought that he had done in any threat to
himself or his family.
Why a more heroic death? What would be the purpose?
I know that he is the hero of 1 but that does not mean that
he should be given a heros death either.
Not that I think he is the king or anything but in this case
why could Elvis have died a more glorious death instead of on
the shitter?

I suppose people want a Metal Gear Solid kind of death where they get shot 12 times and have two limbs severed, but still have time to apply their makeup, crawl to the steps of a cathedral and recite Shakespeare to their murderer in their final moments.

We don't know if Harry even saw a monster.

Claudia claimed that the Missionary was a transfigured cult member, made to look like that to fuel Heather's hate and therefore nourish the God. He might have been sleeping and a person snuck up on him, which when he woke up might register slightly less alarm than, say, a monster.

I know that he is the hero of 1 but that does not mean that
he should be given a heros death either.

Two reasons:

1. For the sake of the story.
In my opinion, having him die in the middle of the story made it climax a bit too early. I feel that it would've been better to simply capture Harry in an effort to lure Heather to Silent Hill. I feel that revenge is a weaker motive (at least in a video game) than rescuing someone you love, which is what made Silent Hill 1 so compelling. I'm not saying he shouldn't have died (death would've probably been the only cure for the nightmares the poor man must've suffered). In fact, having Heather arrive while Harry is on a sacrificial altar just as the knife makes the plunge would've made for a nice tragic ending and THEN have Heather avenge him.
2. A lot of us really liked Harry, and felt he deserved better.

How can you tell what he looks like? We never see his face (or most of the rest of his body as a matter of fact).

Harry was simply walking through the living area and was attacked by a cult member. Stabbed in the abdomen, he obtained the diary and sat down in the chair, waiting for Heather...
