Post subject: What is the significance of Robbie? |

I think that we can agree Robbie the Rabbit has kind of become a bit of a symbol of the series. But why? The only time I ever remember seeing him is as part of the background in the amusement part in SH3. It isn;t like he was ever an important part of the games.

He's in SH4, too... Twice.
But, no... no importance.

I personally don't think he really has any significance other than to creep you out... But eh, I don't know.

...Uhm, I think it became significant in SH3, for the whole SH series...Cause' now, if you ever see Robbie the rabbit, you'll know it has something to do with Silent Hill...And Robbie's just so gosh darn cute, all bloody, and bunny-like...But, who knows, maybe i'm just alittle crazy for thinking that...~shrugs.~

its most probably because something so innocent, a pink bunney has been trned into something disturbing to look at
maybe that why it hadan impact
why people assosiate it with the other game probably because its part of th amusement park and the amusment park is mentioned in some form in all the games. apart from 4 i think
i don't think robie to silent hill 4
silent hill 2 only because it mentioned amusement park

Who knows. Maybe his importance will be known in SH5. Or perhaps he has simply become a mascot for SH.

Robbie is just the mascot for SH Amusement Park, like Mickey Mouse is to Disney World.

But why has he become so popular? So much so that we have about 3 or 4 Robbie items in the SHH shop.

Because he is the mascot for the games. As is Mario is for Nintendo or Pikachu is for Pokemon.* You see Robbie, you think of Silent Hill. Likewise, he was the mascot for Lakeside Amusement Park in the game, which makes sense because many amusement parks have these (Mickey Mouse for Disney, for example).
Team Silent liked Robbie so much that they decided to keep him, recycle him in Silent Hill 4, make wallpapers of him, create a figurine of him (just one, whom Akira Yamaoka presumably has), sell merchandise of him, release a music video of him, and ultimately make him the game's mascot.
What's even more interesting is that Team Silent didn't create Robbie, they borrowed the idea elsewhere.
*For the record, I don't play Pokemon.

I'm curious, where did they borrow him from? The only thing I can think of that comes close is Frank the Bunny from 'Donnie Darko'.

The whole mascot thing had always kinda creeped me out.
When I was little it used to scare me the thought of who the
hell might be under that costume. Could be Michael Fuckin Myers
under there! Anyways I think it was input for a creepy element.
Dead body under the suit, how horribly disfigured is this person/creature?
Leaves room for wonder and fearful imagination. Don't think there is
any other significance.

I can't remember where Robbie came from. However, I do remember seeing an interview with a member of Team Silent (Akira, I think) who said they took the idea of Robbie from ______ and used it in the game. I'll try to find the source, but it's been a long time.
Oh, emptimass, I couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm actually devising SH sleeves, my right arm being the foggy town, my left being Otherworld. I'll have the full Robbie on the foggy side, as well as one of those creepy ghosts you can't shoot from SH1's school, and a leg manaquine. The otherworld side's gonna have a bubble-headed nurse, PH or Valtiel, and the crucified fence guy. I'll have the fog world overlayed with a Halo of the Sun, and Otherworld with the Seal of Metatron... and that's how you make silent hill sleeves.
