I recently bought a second copy of Silent Hill at EBgames for $8. For some reason I decided to leaf through the booklet and came across the map on page 8. As I did, I noticed something peculiar..
It seems that on the original map, Bachman Road was called Pullman Street and Finney Street was Stanley Street. Here's a scan:
I looked through the old posts before the board was hacked and couldn't find this topic but if this is old news I appologize. I just thought it was interesting to note considering Harry's strong resemblance to the actor Bill Pullman.

As for Stanley.. Maybe Stanley Kubrick? Or perhaps Heather's "beloved Stanley." Yeah, so that's a stretch but anyway..

That's pretty cool! I love it when we find these little old things. Bill Pullman was great in Lost Highway, he would malke a good Harry. Pitty it will never happen as Sean Bean is basically Harry in the SHM.

I also think it's interesting that that map says "Wrightwood" on it, but I don't remember seeing that on the in-game map either. Hmmm.

Yeah the Wrightwood thing is interesting. I recall Old, Resort and Shopping District Silent Hill being based on a town in California. I can't remember the name of the town, but I do remember that this was brought up on this board before. Maybe Wrightwood has something to do with Wrightwood California?

Bill Pullman's face is too fat to be our beloved Harry. lol, but there is a resemblance I suppose. It's hard to find look alikes. A few weeks ago I found a girl on DeviantART that looks just like me. Seriously, it was freaky...
Anyway, Thats werid with the street names.
Haha... Stanley..

A lot of the town of Silent Hill is based off of San Bruno, California. The allyways, shops, etc...

On the subject of how Harry looks...I always thought John Shea had the face down better than any actor I've seen...(doesn't help that he's pursing his lips in this pic, but u get the idea)

Wrightwood could be a reference to the author T.M. Wright.
"According to Ramsey Campbell, T. M. Wright is a “one-man definition of the term ‘quiet horror.’†Since 1978, he’s published 22 novels in fourteen languages, including the classic Strange Seed as well as A Manhattan Ghost Story, which has for a long while been in pre-production at Disney Studios. He’s currently editor of Writer Online, voted by Writer’s Digest as the number-two place (out of thousands) to be published on the web."
The book mentioned in this biographical blurb, A Manhatten Ghost Story, was written in 1984 (the year Silent Hill 1 takes place in) and in the synopsis for the book on Amazon, it states:
"The tale is not about a single building, but about an all-pervasive layer of reality in which the shades of the living mark their days in a listless state, until finally they fall apart. A commercial photographer gets slowly pulled, while still living, over to the "other side"--a plight that leads to a profoundly unsettling and surreal chain of events. "And if you get stuck in that other city, that other Manhattan, you find yourself getting awfully desperate and mean-spirited, the way some people are affected by too much heat or the crying of small children."
SH much?

Speaking of which, if Silent Hill, is supposed to be the same place throughout, why do the street names change from the first game to the second?
