O.K I have checked to see if there were any topics on this matter
and did not find any. It is regarding the siren that sounds in the
series when the Normal world shifts to the Otherworld. I always
thought that the sirens sounded in SH1 created to signify a shift
in worlds due to Alessas' state of mind/dream. Is this correct?
I noticed the siren in SH2 after you fight PH in the Apartments and he
disappears under the water in the stairway. Also after the world
shifts in Brookhaven Hospital. If the siren is Alessas' creation
then why I, am wondering, does it sound off in SH2? Is it just
a SH universal thing that happens upon a plain shift or does
it have significance?

Some believe that the siren you can hear in SH1 is the siren of the fire department in town that sounded during the "incident" at Alessa's house.
It is also said that the siren in SH1 doesn't have anything to do with SH2. When the siren sounds, PH is summoned to another place.

If that's what you think why ask others if it's right? Believe what you want to believe.

The fact that the siren still sounds can signify intense mental duress, chaotic and such--but Harry didn't seem to be too bothered or distressed whilst the siren sounded in the first game--or it can tie into the whole "echo/memory" thing I mentioned somewhere else. Alessa's touch and impression still lingers in the town's different realities, so maybe the siren and the Virun VII Crest on the floor during the second to last boss fight have something to do with that. Or nothing at all--who knows?

It was also the siren that was commonly
sounded before a bombing during WW2. If you were in Germany
back in the day you would probably be filled with great fear to
hear those sirens sounding. Possibly this is the reason it was
added. To inflict fear. Those sirens have always given me the creeps anyways.

Well, I live in Tornado Alley, so ever since I was born, that siren meant immediate danger...so it always creeps me out in the game...

The siren could have deep meaning within the SH storyline...or it could just be there to signal that danger is approaching.

Perhaps the SH series is full of universal symbols like this. It's also worth noting that the Otherworld fades away when Harry hears the church bells.

The siren could signify a siren in the town when it caught fire. Perhaps Alessa was blinded and dying, but could hear the siren....so when it sounds off, the town shifts to the nightmare world.

The town didn't catch fire. Only six homes were destroyed. If anything, she'd hear fire engines.

In my town, and many others in this county, if a fire broke out big enough to take that many houses that fast, civil defense would sound a siren in that neighborhood area...

Every time that my towns siren goes off and I am walking down the road
a shiver crawls up my spine and I can't help but anticipate a shift
to dark and dank surroundings :P O well, we can't get everything now can we.

Other than the fact that the town didn't burn down as posted by The Adversary
I agree that when Alessa was burned it was probably the scariest and most
tramatic occurance in her life. Of course haveing a mother like hers might also
be pretty tramatic as well.

Also, when the Siren sounds in Sh2, Pyramid Head is drawn to it. The town calls him... that's why he leaves you after the first battle.

^Yup, important. For what possable reason could Pyramid Head be drawn to the sirens? Which then he goes into the water for. Something to do with the change in the shift of reality and unreality? Maybe Pyramid Head has to stay with the otherside for some reason. Why Pyramid Head, and not the other monsters? I dont know.

Happy new year forum

I was just thinking that, actually. Don't you only see Pyramid Head in the [otherside]? Although one could argue that the apartments is one of the only places that doesn't shift into a 'dark' side, so. There goes that theory.

No, that room James and Pyramid Head fight in, was half-half (otherside). James was too late..

Pyramid Head is slow, and we dont see him outside when James gets thought the door PH went in; So where did he go? Into the otherside. James was too late.

PH has no other purpose than to perform James' inner needs in an outward expression. The Siren is not a summoning, since pH isn't even real. The Siren is a wakeup for James himself...That's why PH leaves.

Silent Hill only changes to the [otherside] twice for James, and neither of those times is in the apartments. There is no half-and-half business: It's Brookhaven Hospital & Lakeview Hotel only.

Wanna know why? Because of Mary. She was never at the Woodside or Blue Creek Apartments. She was, however, at Brookhaven & Lakeview.

Not really... PH isn't through and through a projection from James mind. PH is more then that.
The whole game is taking place in unreality, so nothing is "real" from the point of view that we would see what James saw if we were there. The sirens is a part of the town, the unreality part of the town. Unreality = Otherworld and Mist layer.

^ What Glazarus says is true. Isn't PH supposed to be a twisted incarnation of the old executioners of SH? He may be there to punish James, but it's quite possible that he/they have other purposes, as well, forever doomed to repeat the jobs they had in the past.
