 Post subject: Blood and Rust Theme?

Why is it in the 4 Silent Hill games that in the Reverse/Otherworld/Nightmare/Whatever-you-want-to-call-it side that blood and rust permeates the area, even though Silent Hill appears different in each person's mind? I know that Silent Hill 1 and 3 are connected, but why does James and Henry both see blood and rust in the Otherworld side? Is it that even to the perceptions of different people, that each individual reality of the Otherworld is different except for the blood and rust theme?

Rust=decay, abandoned.
Blood=death, danger.

That, or Team Silent thought it looked cool.

Blood = Red God
Rust = Yellow God

As soon as I'm done with the formatting, I'm going to post my in-depth cult religion analysis in this forum that explains it way better than I just did. :D

Think of Italy — which reminds me of California in so many ways — and its chronic inability to form a government. That’s California, with even better food and no parliamentary system.
....somewhere in Italy a contract was put out on the life of the article's author.

I think the rust basically shows the decaying state of things. The blood appears probably as part of most characters experience for a representation of fear. Since most people would be terrified of being hurt and blood is usually a part of being hurt than it manifests on the environment. just what i think.

Not to be repetitive but...

I don't think it has a very deep meaning other than the decay theme and the fact that it looks cool. and it's a horror game and you find the same themes in a lot of horror films.

Blood and rust both bring to mind burnt flesh.

It's a reference to the fire that burned Alessa in SH1 and SH3.

How over-analytical can some people be? I think Drewfus sums it up best.

It`s just scary, I don`t think there`s any other meaning. It`s almost in every Japanese horror game. Take something cute, cover it in rust and blood and voila, you have a Japnese horror game

I was under the impression that it refered to new blood and old blood, hence the colors, the new blood representing maria, and the old blood representing mary

I think the decaying of the "world" around one is a good indication of what the blood and rust means, seriously it is to envoke some fear into the player as it signals danger. Tho I have always loved the colors of this nightmarish world, so I hope it continues the trend.
