EDIT: Speaking of Forest. Has the pad been found yet? 'Cause I just came across it in Twisted City..

Silent Hill 2
Track: Forest
Sample Library: Zero-G: Twisted City
Sample Name: Track 38 (sample 3, halfway in, manually looped - here is the sample used in the game for comparison)
Time of Sample: 0:03
Sounds very similar to the one used in "Into the Depths of Self Discovery" of SH4, which is the string of Zero G: Smoke.

The Smoke version more or less seems to be "the same", but it's mono (at least on the DLP release I have) and is missing lots of low frequencies present in the Twisted City sample, which is a large part of what makes the Forest pad what it is.

EDIT1: By the way, guys, it seems libraries by Inertia Pro rips off Zero-G at least twice:

Bizarre Rhythms = Malice in Wonderland
Synthetic Cycles = Chemical Beats

Which makes me wonder if Peculiar Beats by Inertia Pro is also originally a Zero-G library. I don't think I have any other library with the drumloops used in Terror in the Depths of the Fog, or A Stray Child, which is the only two samples Peculiar Beats is known for (to me at least). The good thing is folder structures, names and whatnot seems intact, comparing them to the AKAI releases, so maybe it won't be too hard to track down. Any ideas?

EDIT2: Ah yeah, now it's coming back to me. It was mentioned previously that those samples were from a Sony library. But that is actually a rebranded library of the same name, "Funky Xtreams" by Inis, a Japanese company: http://web.archive.org/web/20010527112111/http://www.inis.co.jp/fuel_e/detail_fun_e.html. It was originally released 1998, based on the copyright info in the Sony ACID files.

EDIT3: Was this ever used or am I crazy? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48454461/aud/samples/Track%2030%20s%204.wav. Sounds familiar..

EDIT4: Don't think this has been documented?

The other night I was watching the new X-Files season 10 finale and the Witch Doctor-D#2 sample (Ghost in the Machine/Altered States) was prominently featured. It's always funny to hear these sounds in other places. It's also funny that this old sample is still being used in major television shows in 2016!

I aslo heard the beat of Wounded Warsong in the "making of" of Mad Max: Fury Road. The old libraries are very unique and still being better than most of the recent ones IMO.

Not sure. Have you checked the usual suspects thoroughly? Sounds like a cut in the middle of some sample from maybe Titanium Rhythms or Bump in the Night.

Found this while going through BITN:

It was just a suggestion. Not saying the sample(s) have to be in either of them. I'm sure you've gone through those libraries once or twice, but it's easy to miss stuff in longer samples.

Also, wanted to clarify something..

VIVIsect wrote:I believe it's C#3 (assuming you have the root note set to C).
It actually isn't the correct sample. Here it is from the game itself. Play it with E and F two octaves down. I'm guessing the source sample is probably longer and not looped like that, but still. I feel like I may have heard it in some library. Anyone else?

And can someone tell me which "title screen" of Silent Hill 2 that Bass Walimbo (aka BS WALIMBO) from Distorted Reality 2 is supposed to have been used in? Is it the title screen in the trailers, or something else? The "new game" hit sounds nothing like it, so I figure that's not it. Right? If it's the former, then that sample is actually from Cuckooland Asylum (track 33, last sample).

Walimbo is the continue hit screen not new game.

I was never entirely sure about the Walimbo sample, because I listed it from memory, without a copy of the game laying around or any other reference. I was pretty sure it was a screen hit, but I couldn't remember from which screen.

In regard to that other sample, yeah, I'm stumped. ha

Sorry if I'm annoying, but isn't the hit for "continue" and "new game" the same? Is it different between versions? I checked the original PS2 release and the PS2 Director's Cut release and they seem to be the same.

The save menu, maybe? It's gonna drive me crazy now because I know it so well from somewhere, I just can't put my finger on where. Hell, maybe it's on a Resident Evil game or something.

peronmls: what sound effects are there for Maria? Do you mean the boss?

VIVIsect: nope, doesn't seem to be the save menu either. And I don't think it's from Resident Evil. I'd probably recognize it. :P

I guess I will go through all the samples and see if it's in SH2 at all.

EDIT: well, I couldn't find it among the SFX or BGM samples (and that's a grand total of 1541 samples) nor the pre-rendered movies. So unless the dialogue recordings contain the sample, it probably isn't in SH2 whatsoever.

So I think I found the CLAW FINGER sample. It's a small cut from a longer sample on Underfire (track 60).

Sample from the game data
Sample from Underfire (uncut, stereo)
Sample from Underfire (trimmed, stereo)
Sample from Underfire (trimmed, downmixed to mono)

This exact sample is used in NEVER AGAIN as well.

I decided to see what CLAW FINGER would sound like in stereo. :P
