How do you think they could of have improved Silent Hill 4?

Henry's locked in his apartment and can't get out. Bless.

I never take care of that cripple. I stick her in the "safe rooms" then if she wonders out, she wonders the fuck out. A little mean, probably--but well deserved.

I don't think I ever finished my Normal game. Didn't have the incentive to go through it. That is my least played game I think, other than Homecoming which I've only played like 3 times since I got it almost 2 months ago now.

I was able to save Eileen on Normal, but it was a very close shave. The trick is to leave three empty spaces in your inventory so that when you use the umbilical cord, you have four empty spaces for the swords. After all, you don't really need more than two mega health items, the axe (or whatever meele weapon), the revolver, and two boxes of bullets. Win.

Why are you women always so catty.."rawr"...:D....now Ashely i can understand wanting to let her die, but i actually felt inclined to save Eileen, i also wanted to save Maria in prt2....some of Eileen's actions during the game was frustrating, but personality wise, i generally cared about both Eileen and Maria...

Better character control. That is the only issue I have had with the series.
Homecoming had slightly better control except for the ammount of hits required to kill enemies.

1. Better controls
2. A broken radio and a flashlight (Come on, it´s Silent Hill)
3. Better voice acting. In my opinion it was very weak.
4. More boss battles.

Yeah the voice acting for the most part is pretty bad, and its not just the actors but the scripts they're working from are clumsy as well.

I've been replaying this game after a long while, and I've found the controls to be not so bad, but it still feels unnatural and combat is clumsy. Many enemies behave like dumb wind up toys, and sometimes Henry knocks one down and you want to stomp it out before it gets up, but Henry keeps swinging away and you miss your chance.

I really like the design of the twin monster, but I feel they squandered this thing by making it a typical enemy. It could have very well been the Pyramid Head of SH4, it could have stalked Walter as a symbol of his guilt, similar to PH and James relationship.

Good points: I love the art direction in this game, it stands out as an individual in the series, and the overall idea was good too.

I would of said everything but..now..now I don't know. See I don't know if it is attended to make you feel like your in Harrys shoes but if that is the case The only thing that needs to go is having to revisit every area again which in my eyes feels like the Konami is just being lazy.

I like Silent Hill 4 the way it is. Even if it isn't the best, they tried to do something new. This did not mean it was a bad game it just didn't work as well as they might have hoped.

I don't like some things about SH4 though, but these are just nitpicks.

Silent Hill 4 to me seems like it had all of the right ingredients to make one bomb-ass cake... But could have spent a little more time baking in the oven.

I frickin' love the addition of ghosts and hauntings, especially the idea of your safe haven, the apartment becoming a breeding ground of haunts. Those personally accounted for some of the scariest shit in the game. The story in general, and the depth of it (if you make the investment to dig into it) is something that is satisfying and manages to not feel like a rehash. The character of Walter is the backbone of this game.

For all the positives, though, there are a plethora of "what the fuck were they think"ings: Burping nurses, cheesy sound effects (that scream at the very beginning when you are in Joseph's dream makes me guffaw), lack of flashlight or radio, some questionable script and VA choices, drawn-out repetition of levels, backtracking, unnecessarily difficult escorting of Eileen, shitty limited inventory and poorly executed stacking of ammo, lack of any deep puzzles, some dumb enemy AI, and I could go on.... just like I could with any video game or work of art as much as I love it. Everything has it's flaws. I for one though feel glad I saw through it and completed the game, and the richness of the story payed off.

I feel like most of the above complaints could have been easily remedied with some minor tweaking and just a little bit more development time, but eh... It is what it is, and that's okay. If nothing else, I wish some elements of the story and some of the character development could have been fleshed out just a tad, that's the only thing that still nags at me after all this time. I like my SH games cryptic, but maybe not quite that cryptic.

How could they improve? By releasing the game they showed in the 9 minute trailer and not the watered down version of it.

Most of the problems in SH4 are common sense things that just shouldn't have been done.

Honestly, if one SH game needs a remake, it would be SH4. It easily had the potential to be one of the best horror games ever made. Still love it to death though. It's pretty damn unique.

I think it's good that they tried something new with the franchise, but there are definitely some problems:
- Darkness no longer plays a part in the game, making it less scary
- Getting rid of the radio
- Walter's horrible A.I.
- The ghosts make the levels harder to enjoy. One of my favorite parts of the series to that sequel was being able to slowly and carefully investigate rooms and other places.
- You need to constantly return to your apartment to drop off items and pick up others
- Camera angles are frustrating, and not well-thought-out
- The enemies, in a sense, can be considered original, but they don't add anything. And those wheelchairs are just...*facepalm*
- You must play through the entire 1st half of the game over again with no difference but having Eileen (Such a hassle!) to protect and some new puzzles.
- Equiping Eileen with weapons does more harm than good. She completely forgets about following you and just walks into a group of enemies on her own.

don't know if l said this before or retracting former complaint but l could have done without the uselessness of firearms. seriously, the ONLY time l use a gun is against either richard or andrew and that's if l have silver bullets. for the most part it's rusty one handed axe or baseball bat.

^ Really? I used both guns all the time. I'm not sure I could save Eileen in the final fight without the Revolver, and earlier I used the pistol a lot to avoid crowds of enemies or avoid having to get right up close to them.

^ This.
My ideas to fix the game,
-Make the items inventory system more like SH3's, if not identical to it.
-You can save at holes WITHOUT having to go back to the room durring the SECOND half of the game.
-Eileen stays in the room (yes, giving her the ability to travel through holes,) unless you go through one and get her because you need her to solve a puzzle or do something useful.
-During a second play through Eileen becomes playable when a second controller is plugged into the console.
-Most ghosts are to be seen but have no intention of harming you unless attacked.
-More puzzles. Less backtracking bullshit.
-Second half of the game is a play through of the first, but what looked normal is now the other world, what looked like the other world now looks normal.
-Water prison is now pitch black inside, you need a flashlight.
-Forrest and orphanage are foggy.
-Moar cult background info on characters like Jimmy Stone.

I love the Silent Hill Series. The games: Homecoming, Origins, and Shattered Memories, did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. Just because they were not by Team Silent doesn't mean that they're bad games. I believe in this series. I believe that one day, we can have a game that will make all Silent Hill fans Happy. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour can achieve this.
Team Silent may be gone, but their series isn't. Instead... it's here, it's alive.

If you agree, add it to your sig.

It's a horrible game with a stupid escort mission, freaking annoying monsters, nothing even REMOTELY related to the real SH, and a storyline that makes you go "I spent all these hours playing for *THAT*?!" The only thing SH4 needs is to be wiped from the SH list, IMHO
I could say the same of Silent Hill 2...
No. Seriously, you couldn't. I loved sh4 and i'd defend it to death, but sh2 is one of the best games ever.
The game plays you as much as you play it.

Opinions aside, SH2 definitely has escorting an npc, annoying monsters, and isn't directly tied into the story/progression that SH1 and SH3 are.
There's not really anything to disagree with outside of the "story is terribad, not worth playing."

The dislike for the escort, and the monsters are both pretty much subjective opinions to me. Unless you meant something else?

And you couldn't really say SH2 is not REMOTELY related to the real SH, either. There's one big difference between SH4 and SH2: SH2 actually takes place in Silent Hill. As a matter of fact, isn't Silent Hill barely mentioned in SH4?

The prison and the forest house are located in Silent Hill... Also, SH4 allows us to know more about characters that were mentioned in the previous games and that is really cool (Although I didn't notice anything at first)... SH4 is heavily based in The Order that is almost as important as the town itself... And Silent Hill has the foggy and alternate walkthoughs like the previous games (In the stairs between worlds)...

HOW THE HELL CAN YOU SAY THE GAME ISN'T RELATED WITH THE PREVIOUS GAMES!!??

First off, if that's directed at me, I've never even made such a claim.

If it's not directed at me, it's still pretty late to say such a thing because, as you can see, the post that was quoted by someone that I quoted is from three years ago.

Not directly. The town's past and cult certainly have a place within the context of both SH2 and SH4, but they are window dressing for the most part. You could remove all of the things tied to the past events and cult, replace it with something else, and never miss a beat.

Frank, you mean to tell me there are people that actually like escort missions? That's got to be the sickest group of people ever!
And enemies that block you from running down a hall, get cheap hits on you, and just make you frustrated from time to time (which I would say is very much present in both) would be more towards an objective annoying than subjective.
