I agree with the OP. It's a bit overlong.

For an example of what a haunted asylum should look and feel like... play the 'Shalebridge Cradle' level of Thief: Deadly Shadows. The Sanitarium in Origins seemed like a bit of a missed opportunity, honestly. I thought I was going to be terrified, but after awhile, I just sort of got bored.

The back and forth between the otherworld and 'normal' world seemed like a ploy to extend the gameplay without actually adding any extra story or features or levels. Levels are only terrifying if you don't have to spend too long inside of them... after awhile, you get desensitized, and backtracking back and forth to figure out puzzles only hurts the experience even more. Add to the mix that Travis doesn't seem particularly scared or even unsettled, and it just sets the wrong mood altogether.
"Monsters? They look like monsters to you?"

<lobotomy equipment
Fat chance. Lobotomy was banned in the US during the 50s.

Though, I doubt the doctors at Cedar Grove Sanitarium gave a shit about those rules.

It got far to ridiculous, and as for fun, I dont have fun in any of the SH games...lol. I play them because they freak me the F*** out! I play them for the thrill and this stage bout made me kill myself :D
Where's my congratulations than? :P

I bought SH: Origins Monday, went through the Sanitarium between Tuesday and Wednesday, no walkthroughs...didn't find it very annoying either, no need for a walkthrough whatsoever since i didn't get stuck, almost wished for a Walkthrough to get the Medical Container opened though lol.

Overall loving the game, going through the Riverside Motel atm, probably finish it before the end of the week!

I don't get how so many people had trouble with this place. I made the mistake of reading through a few threads about 0rigins before I played all the way through and I was dreading the sanitarium because of it. I can't figure out where all this frustration/boredom is coming from. I enjoyed the atmosphere.

^It comes from the fact that it feels almost exactly like I'm at the hospital I was just at. And hospitals are becoming overused.

Just think about the oversized sanitarium like a payment for the really little hospital... I mean, you can pass all ALchemilla hospital like in 10 minutes... The giant sanitarium gives more balance to the game... Then we have the theater that also is a bit small and finally we have the motel that again is bigger...

Is funny how the locations about Travis are bigger than the locations about Alessa...

I found the sanitarum bigger than expected so it took me longer than I thought to finish it and it is creepier than other places for me.

in total honestly, this level was so horafying to me that i wanted to quit the game... the only reason that i didn't was because i knew that i'd never hear the end of it from my girlfriend... anyway... i ran into MANY snags in this level, and thought it to be WAY TOO LONG...
"three puzzles down, here's the bo- damn... i gotta go WHERE?!"
*gets to desied point*
"ANOTHER puzzle?!"
and thats how it pritty much was the whole way through...
just thinking about it makes me wanna throw my psp against the wall!
X(
i even got the perfect theme song for it. then again, i got a theme song fo the whole damn game. XD
life is a b*tch...
cuz if it was a hooker, it'd be easy.

Ya know I have to agree The Sanitarium was the most annoying up and down stairs again and again just really drawn out.

It was really drawn out for me. The pill puzzle was a lot of fun for me, but the size of it kind of overwhelmed me and it got kind of old after a while. I felt like it was a little too big, even if most of the doors are jammed. Having three floors (b, 1, & 2) was a little bit too much for me.

I guess I'm alone when I say that I actually enjoyed the Sanitarium. I thought it was scary. The fact that it was so huge, and you never knew when you were done, sort of threw you that, "Holy shit, what else am I gonna see in here?" feeling.

I remember going into the basement the first time and sort of refusing to go anywhere.

I agree with you. I was truely terrified and I didn't know what was worse: the "normal" sanitarium or the Otherworld sanitarium...

I'm at the sanitarium now as well. I agree it is quite possibly the most annoying/horrifying places to explore and navigate. I played through it once before and I used a guide, and I thought this time it would be different and not that bad...nope, still scares the bejesus out of me and I'm still lost as to how to get that damn key you flush down the bath. :?

I enjoyed the Sanitarium. I prefered it to the Theatre and the end, anyway.

I guess the best part of 0rigins for me was the hospital and street exploration.

I'm with you on reaching the basement. I didn't LIKE the sanitarium, but I did find it scary.
