Just curious...all the other characters' full names are mentioned, but I realized after looking through various sources I couldn't find Laura's.

No. Laura is an orphan & her last name was never revealed.

Why else would Mary want to adopt her? If she had parents she clearly can't be adopted unless she's taken from them..

Hm...well, I went as far as to check on the Book of Lost Memories on Laura, and it mentions her name was taken from a non-fiction book, "No Language But a Cry," by Richard D'Ambrosio. I might pick it at the library one day. :) Thanks for the help....

And I'll hope no one has the misfortune of having the last name "Sanderlake"

I recommend "No Language but a Cry." Although it does get rather bland toward the end, in my opinion, at some points you can't help but smile when you think you've spotted one of the developers' "references."

In the book, Laura's last name is Meyers.

Thanks, I think Laura Meyers will be the closest anyone can get guessing Laura's real last name.

I think I will pick the book pretty soon too, seems interesting. I been reading some other books that inspired SH too (like Dean Koontz's Phantoms....lame scientific ending), but so far I've been dissappointed. Been trying to find a good one!

I think I need to check out one of these books, but I never got a card at our library. We signed up and they said we'd get it in thirty days if we had no late fees...our books were a week late lol..maybe amazon.com :P

This could be a stretch but by not havin a last name couldn't that be interpreted as Laura representing the only human of innocence in the game?

Fair point, yet, you'll have to take Maria into consideration as well.
