Yes, it was pretty intense the first time I played through it. Despite all the hints it dropped, a part of you still didn't want to believe that things ended up the way the did. I'll even go on the record and say that it was more shocking than the time I found out:
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
Vader was Luke's father! Soylent Green was people! The Crying Game chick was a man! Vince screwed Bret!
SUNDERPANTS:
Providing a comfortable fit for the self-loathing, guilt ridden man in your life.

Yeah, especially with all the symbolisms for the monsters, how they act, what they look like, it's great.

It was cool but it was a little predictable.

I think it's a really good plot twist on, individually. It's really gripping.

What made the game so beautiful and horrifying, was the story itself. The mystery behind James. That's what was so gripping and that is why I loved the game so much, and 100% agree that it could be one of the best plot twists ever. When you look back at things in the game, it all connects, its "Wyrd". Everything is connected to everything, and the makers of the game did it so brilliantly. Totally Flawless story, and game.

Yes it was great. I'd also love for them to drop the cult story for another game. SH2 is really the only one that doesn't have much of it in it. SH1 and SH3 are based around it and SH4's main charecter (Walter) is connected to it, with mainy refs. Though they all connect in the mytology of it.

was one of if not the best twist in gaming history.. people rag on SH 2 for it's gameplay.. but in my opinion it has the deepest and most original story I've seen in years.. which separates it from most other titles.
You guys obviously haven't finished Metal Gear Solid 2...

Unfortunately I was way too young and immature to understand it at that point. I actually recall having the thought 'how the hell can you forget something like that?'. So yeah it was completley lost on me and obviously was again on future playthroughs since I knew what was going to happen.

MGS2 had a good, kinda deep story, but it's still all sci-fi. SH 2 was about people, relationships, love, loss, etc, all wrapped up in a surrealistic, fucked up atmosphere.... You don't find stuff like that in video games. SH2's plot, I'd say, is better than almost any movie or book coming out these days.

Other than The Bible (naturally), I think Silent Hill 2 has the best story of all time.

The Bible has a terrible story. It's protagonist is a Mary Sue, the villain is totally unbelievable, there's no plot twists at all, and there's so many Deus Ex Machina uses that it comes off as amateurish writing. And it's filled with plot holes. It's like Anne Rice's writing style. "I don't need an editor lol."

Well, it's true. Any literary professor would tell you that the Bible is amateurish as a story, barely of a High School level. But the Bible isn't SUPPOSED to be a story, it's supposed to give a message; everything in it is a device to serve that purpose.
