Most influential games of the decade
I was happy to see SH2 get some credit for influencing the gaming industry.
"Separating itself from the formulaic, zombie-laden schlock that was beginning to define the horror-game genre, this PlayStation 2 game was grounded in a certain kind of horrific reality..."

Woohoo! Yeah Silent Hill 3's my favorite! But, I think Silent Hill 2 deserves all the respect it gets.SPRINGS02 wrote:yeah i agree sh2 is overrated Sh3 is easily the best one
Another frequency perpetuated into context, trapped in the eternal paradox.

Wonderful, this thread is turning into this one.

It's because Silent Hill set the bar higher in terms of survival horror quality. People will always compare works to what they deem to be the best example of the genre. Look how many fantasy books are compared to Tolkien, for example.Axel_98 wrote:I agree with Mephisto, alot of people i know compare EVERY survivial horror game to SH2 :/ its annoying.
Which is annoying for those of us who barely got through LotR and have only a lifelong hatred of elves to show for it!rm2kking wrote:Look how many fantasy books are compared to Tolkien, for example.
My personal gripes aside, that's an excellent point and exactly the problem. It's not so much that SH2 is overrated, it's that we can feel a little burned out on it because it's mentioned so often - and it's only mentioned so often because it's very, very good. If I hear Beethoven's Fifth in a movie and wish they'd used something more original, that's a result of my overexposure to the piece of music, and no reflection on its quality. I'm thrilled to see SH2 get the recognition I think it deserves.

^Hit the nail directly on the head in quite a few ways.
I dreamed I lay in a dark valley and all around me were the titanic forms of archangels. I heard distant voices and I knew these supernatural warriors were chanting a litany...
"We are the Warriors at the End of Time. We are the lost, the last, the unkind. We are the Warriors on the Edge of Time and we're tired, we're tired... We're tired of making love..."

Hmm, I guess it's been a while since I've played 2 then. But what I meant was that I think SH3 just 'feels' better than 2. SH2's story was just a lot better than 3 in my opinion.
Anyway, back ontopic:
I think the first Silent Hill should be there instead of 2. That's the game that started the series and took survival-horror into a different direction.
