A Question... [SPOILERS!]

Post by Icarus »

Alright, I know I haven't been on here in a while, I've found a few other forums that have been taking my time.

But, a few days ago, I desided to replay Silent Hill 2. And I noticed something...

In Brookheaven, when you find the fridge, the one with the ring in it. Well, the first time you try to open it, you can't, because your not strong enough. But when Maria comes, and helps you, it opens easly... But, if Maria isn't real... How could her being there have helped James to open the fridge?

Thoughts/anwsers?

I have also thought about that.. Maybe James tries harder the second time and he is stronger because he imagines that someone (Maria) is helping him.

Well the fridge itself could be a manifestation as well. It doesn't really matter whether Maria is real or not, the fridge requires two, for the lack of better word, metaphysical strength, then so be it.

Well, tehnically, Maria IS real. She may be a manifestation of the town, created from James' mind, but she DOES exist. If the things in Silent Hill weren't real, how could they hurt James? Because he thinks they hurt them, and dies of a spontaneous heart attack or stroke when he thinks he's sustained too much damage? Just because the people and things in Silent Hill are manifestations of the town doesn't mean they lack mass and density and are incapable of manipulating their surroundings. It just means they're soulless abominations unto the lord.

Maybe it just needed that femine touch? j/k

Seriously though, at this point in the game he still "needs" Maria so maybe that's why.

And how could Maria open the door to Heaven's Night if she's not somehow "physical"? And what about Born from a Wish, or the fact that she can actually be hurt by monsters? I guess the fridge room does not collide with the idea the game gives away of Maria during the game.

James is in Otherworld, so things like Maria, the Monsters, etc. are actually physically existing, not just hallucinations.

- Exactly, she is a physical manifestation created by James, like all the monsters, they are only real to him but they are there because the power of Silent Hill allows them to be.

James played it wimpy on his first try. It was a scam so he could see Maria flex.

Yes. Just because a lot of things in the game are in a different dimension than 'reality' doesn't mean they're not real, and not physically there.

As was mentioned, if the monsters can physically hurt James, Maria could physically help James.
