Is this true?

Post by CasuallyDressed »

I was doing a random SH2 quiz last night, and 1 question was...

When did Mary die?

Now, being the smartass knowitall that I am, I put 3yrs and finished the quiz. Then I get my results back...

Turns out, Mary has been dead for 3 DAYS and is actually in the trunk of James' car at the beginning of the game!

Is this accurate??

It depends on who you ask. Mary being dead for three days and being in the trunk of James' car is an educated guess, but the game never comes right out and says it. It's a highly probable guess, but still a guess.

Whoever made that quiz made the mistake of presenting theory as truth.

This is the quiz by the way...

And could you please provide the necessary evidence that supports this educated guess?

There's quite a lot of it. Adversary I think has a nice explanation that supports this view. I can't remember all of it, so I'm not even going to bother trying to explain it. Hopefully he'll see this and fill you in.

Haha was biomechanicals post meant to have been deleted? Funny stuff.

Also, the quiz says all the enemies in the game (except the bosses) are female. Another question I got wrong! Damn scepticism.

Almost all the evidence is pretty much in the game, starting with Laura's statements and Laura's existence.

"I turned eight last week." Thus prompting James to say... "So.. Mary couldn't have died three years ago." She had to have passed away sometime between Laura's eighth birthday and the day that James arrives in Silent Hill. This lleaves a span of seven days (if you want to get technical about it: seven to ten days).

As for the three days thing, I'm not entirely sure how that one came about. It probably has something to do with the time it takes to get to Silent Hill or something else entirely. Not sure. But since Mary's date of death has already been narrowed down into a week before game events, I go along with it. And her body is in the trunk because James fishes it out for the Rebirth ending: he has it with him on the boat as he rows to the island, has it with him as he plummets to his watery grave in In Water, and I assume just brought the corpse with him because it'd be risky to leave it behind/in a moment of psychosis/because Mary wanted to go back to Silent Hill.
I'm not dead yet, dammit.

biomechanical's response was spam. Spam is like forum cancer. I removed it before it spread.

As for the bosses being female: what? Pyramid Head is not female. The Hanging Bodies and the Lying Figure do not necessarily even have a sex. The Lying Figure especially, since Angela sees it as HER FATHER, is probably not female.

I'd ignore that quiz. The person who made it has obviously gone way off into their own interpretation and presents their views as fact with no evidence to back it up.

I think you misread part of the post. Every enemy except the bosses was female. But that doesn't entirely explain the Doormen in the hotel...

I'm gonna be perfectly honest now, I haven't seen the In Water ending...possibly not the Rebirth ending either. I can't remember what ending I HAVE seen! I know I've seen the Dog ending though lol

Anyway, thank ya Krissy for clearing that 1 up :)

That was my original post^^ I thought it was funny too.
I guess I had better add something relevant if I dont want my shit deleted.
It's all speculative, really. Some people say under a week (very likely),
Some people say within 3 days (also likely)
Personally I think that she was killed within several hours of the beginning of SH2, (a day or less)
I dont know much about dead bodies, but I would think that if she was dead for 3 days, she might start to stink.

You're welcome, sweet pea. Like Drew said, Adversary has a theory on it and he'll be more than happy to tell you about it if he sees this thread.

By the way, sorry that I spoiled some of the endings for you. Rebirth ending is seen after you get any of the "original" endings (Maria, Leave, In Water). It's unlockable after that, and achieved by gaining four key items for the Rebirth ceremony. On the boat with James is a long white sheet one can only assume is Mary's body. This also ties in with the proposed theory that Rebirth is Silent Hill 2's true ending--another gem of the Adversary's. Either way, it's undeniable that James went to Silent Hill to be reunited with his wife, one way or another (be it by a delusional [the letter] hope, killing himself, or animating her recently deceased corpse).
I'm not dead yet, dammit.

Mary died on May 13th, 1994. The game takes place on May 14th. The last day of her diary is May 13th, found atop Brookhaven Hospital, on the roof. She's writing it the day James is picking her up, the day she's been released.

You could go so far as to say she died on the 14th, and the game takes place on the 15th, giving James & Mary another day together before she passes away, but I think otherwise.

Anyway. To answer the question: Mary passed away on May 13th, 1994.

This quiz also says that Angela is 19, Mary-25, and Eddie-23. Is this true?

In a word: yes.

Angela isn't much older than a high school student. She ran away from home after she graduated, was dragged back by her father, and sometime after her nineteenth birthday attacked/killed him, and took off again. The booklet that comes with the game tells you so, it just doesn't mention their ages (for whatever reason). Also, if you look closely at some pictures/movie stills, you can see pimples on Angela's face. I suppose bad skin is indicative of youth.

Mary is, I think, two or three years younger than James.

Oh yeah, the wrapped bodies monsters and the cocheroches weren't female. At least you couldn't tell if they were or weren't.

And WTH is "the three doormen"?

This quiz said I got 7/10.I think I should have gotten 10/10!
