Uhh... do you have a similar speculation of this...but in a nutshell? XDD
I just can't read all that. It's not that I have a short attention span, but it's more like an "overload".

Re: Mary stayed at Brookhaven Hospital (massive overhaul):
For me, it's never been about Brookhaven vs. St. Jerome's (I think she was in Silent Hill when she wrote James that letter), but Brookhaven vs. Alchemilla vs. some other hospital in town. I'm not totally convinced by the diary, but the otherworld shift and gurney scene may be indicators that Mary was there... the problem is that it's all from James' perspective, so it's hard to separate out something and say "ah-ha, that's an external piece of evidence for thus and so." If Mary had stayed there in her last days, I can't help but think there would have been more overt references to it, examples of dramatic irony (where the player knows something the character does not), but I should try playing through it again with this theory in mind and see if it fits my experience. That's really all anybody can do.

Because there is a real letter, and what James starts off with isn't it.

I was referring to the letter in the beginning of the game. The only real letter I'm aware of is Laura's letter.alone in the town wrote:Because there is a real letter, and what James starts off with isn't it.

The fake letter at the beginning is a heavily-abridged version of the real letter, which Mary narrates in most of the endings.

I didn't know that your preferences equated to the preferences of everyone else. Please. Do go on, I want to know what kind of ice cream I like as well since I clearly enjoy the wrong stuff.untamedbananaslug wrote:I've enjoyed myself at a lot of holiday resorts. That doesn't mean I'd stay at a hospital there. Indeed, it seems rather pointless to stay at a nice tourist resort if you are terminally ill, and likely confined to the hospital for most of the day.Harrys_Girl wrote:How about because Brookhaven is in Silent Hill and Mary specifically states she "just loves it here [in Silent Hill]"
1. Why did she attend a hospital not in Silent Hill initially, then?Harrys_Girl wrote: If you knew you were dying and you didn't want to be at home forcing your loved one to take care of you, where would be a better place to go than a place you love and had the best times of your life at?
2. Even if we assume (note: assume) that Mary was transferred to Silent Hill, what evidence do you have that she was transferred to Brookhaven?
I'd also like to take the opportunity to state again that no, I would not go to a hospital at a tourist destination. I'd choose a hospital that was:
1. Close to home
2. Provided the best quality of palliative care
I sure as hell wouldn't transfer on a whim, leaving all the familiar faces (such as Laura's) behind. That wouldn't be good for my 'psychological health', the very thing you postulate that Mary transferred because of.
I can't even believe you're even arguing with Adversary (The guy that knows more than anybody else on this forum), rather than trying to learn something from him. He might be an ass sometimes but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Sorry if this argument is already over, I just saw this post and had to drop my $0.02 in...

It is important to understand that interpretation is a vital aspect to the silent hill series. I think the Adversary's theory is very detailed and fascinating but that does not mean others are wrong for going against the grain. After playing the game again, I still cannot determine if Mary stayed at Brookhaven or not but reading the theories on here sure do raise some interesting questions.

Wow.... this is just... I'm flabbergasted. Absolutely amazing theory, and a true testimony of a real Silent Hill fan. The deeper purpose of the first three games was to get you thinking and keep it that way throughout the entire game. Analyze. Over analyze. Put pieces together to solve the ultimate puzzle. Team Silent never just threw stuff in to elongate the game or make it more appealing to the audience. *cough*likepyramidheadinhomecoming*cough* They went out of their way to weave riddles and puzzle pieces into each and every aspect of their games to create one of the most awesome experiences I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Kudos to you, my friend. This was truly a masterpiece all in it's own.

Re: Mary stayed at Brookhaven Hospital (massive overhaul):
Let me get this straight: terminal Mary was rotting for 3 years at St. Jerome's, then got sent to Brookhaven about a week before Silent Hill 2 took place because she was depressed, maybe suicidal, then within a week or so got sent home? I could use a place like Brookhaven.
I don't think the roof diary was Mary. I think it was someone who actually killed himself. Possibly jumped off the roof.
I would like to think Mary spent time in Brookhaven. That room on the third floor where Maria took a break from being a pain seems significant as does the video clip after fighting the hanging bosses. Is there any way she could've been there longer than a week though without conflicting with Laura's story? I don't care what Silent Hill 4 says.

I can't believe i earned 10 Silent Hill cash for this.

Re: Mary stayed at Brookhaven Hospital (massive overhaul):
It's not that Brookhaven is just such an amazing hospital. Mary would have been sent there because Silent Hill is her "special place" full of happy memories. That's what her doctors were hoping would alleviate her depression.Squarehead wrote:Let me get this straight: terminal Mary was rotting for 3 years at St. Jerome's, then got sent to Brookhaven about a week before Silent Hill 2 took place because she was depressed, maybe suicidal, then within a week or so got sent home? Also, I wouldn't overthink the importance of the room where you leave Maria, since St. Thomas The Adversarybird makes a good case for Mary having stayed on the first floor:
The Adversary wrote:Another interesting thing to note is Maria’s reaction to the [otherside], specifically on the first floor. On any floor, in every other room, Maria acts normally: a blank stare, straight ahead, or at James. The first floor, however, coming off of the elevator, Maria acts noticeably different. (Keep in mind, too, that you never have to take Maria to the first floor, but if you do, you have the chance to see her act—more importantly: react—in a way you can’t see elsewhere.
With her back to James, her face to the wall, it seems there’s something about the first floor she doesn’t want to see or be reminded of. Being an aspect of Mary, replete with her reticent memories, this is a glimpse into the side of Mary that Maria couldn’t prevent from making itself known—same with her outburst in the basement, and how she feels “like it’s up to me to protect her (Laura).â€
If this display meant nothing, that the first floor held no significance to Maria, then it wouldn’t have been available at all; she would’ve acted the same as she does coming off of the elevator on any floor. But it’s only this floor. The floor where Laura stops to play with the bears she happens to love—that even Maria knows she loves—and in that very room, in the [otherside], is the sound of glass-smashing. And, of course, it’s well known that sound plays an important & crucial role in determining past events in Silent Hill, and there just so happens to the sound of something glass crashing against the floor. What’s smashing? Perhaps a vase of flowers given to her by James; a vase that afterwards she smashed, because “I don’t deserve any flowers… I’m disgusting.†This, then, is where I believe spent her remaining days at Brookhaven Hospital: Room C2, on the first floor.

In your theory you wrote that James took Mary and drive at some part of the town and killed here.
Maybe James drived with Mary to Blue Creek Apartment, took a room and killed here there.

This fan fiction theory is over. Masahiro Ito has confirmed on his Twitter page that Mary NEVER stayed at Brookhaven. Big thanks to Severity_Of_God for contacting Ito.

Monobrow was right. The Adversary and Ryantology were wrong.
Congrats on proving me wrong about Cybil though. You were 100% right about that. I was 100% wrong. I admit that.
Anyway, I suggest you fix your timeline as soon as possible. Enjoy.

I've never seen why she would stay there. It's like one of those theories that tries to connect too much to each other. Plus, if she had stayed there, you'd think James would say something about the place in relation to Mary like he did when he visited Rosewater Park and Lakeview Hotel.

I'm still not sure why we should give Masahiro Ito so much credibility; he was the monster designer first and foremost, and he's not even positive about half the stuff he's remembering from over ten years ago.
