I'm really starting to think James did right.
That Damn Disease.Mephisto wrote:That's gross. What is the name of that disease again? it seems that it wasn't covered, or I forgot.
I can't believe i earned 10 Silent Hill cash for this.
Re: Mary's Disease Model
That's horrible...
Though would it be farfetched of me to say this could be how James saw her, not how she actually looked?

Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song, and there's always music in the air.

Re: Mary's Disease Model
My guess is that it was some sort of rare skin cancer. There seems to be an absence of hair at the top of her scalp, suggesting hair loss from chemotherapy.

Or loss from alopecia caused by the degrading of her skin condition. Besides, catching skin cancer over 3 years out would have a low mortality rate, and even less of a chance of causing her other symptoms.Automatic13 wrote:My guess is that it was some sort of rare skin cancer. Ah, yes, okay, that makes sense too. Well I'm in the dark about any specific diagnosis then haha.
Re: Mary's Disease Model
Obviously those are hemorrhagic lesions on her face. As far as what causes it, maybe hemorrhagic leukoencephilitis. It's both rare and fatal

Re: Mary's Disease Model
I've always believed her illness was fatal 'convenient plot-serving generic illness syndrome'.
I think they gave her the most convenient and disfiguring symptoms they could and didn't bother naming her affliction simply because it doesn't matter. Only the nature of the illness matters, not its name.

Aye, looks painful.
So, it causes… that, coupled with respiratory issues and hair loss. It isn’t not contagious or curable (or at least the type that Mary has isn’t (curable, that is)). It’s rare (or at least the type Mary has is), it seems to cause weakness, the treatment causes some discomfort and pain (if that really was Mary’s diary) and it’s impossible to tell how long it takes for the disease to kill you. And it may be the cause of Mary’s depression, anxiety and mood swings (biologically, I mean).
MMY could be right though, it could actually be Lupus.

However, the idea that it's fictional is still more likely IMO.

Seriously, I don't see why it can't be. I just like saying that.

House is right. It's never Lupus, except when it is.
I've never seen a Lupus patient look like Mary.

Re: Mary's Disease Model
I think she's caught a disease caused by the plot de-virus.
Re: Mary's Disease Model
Me either, but as stated in the link I provided "No two cases of lupus are exactly alike.". Mary may have some extreme, plot driven, version of it.I've never seen a Lupus patient look like Mary.
I still think they didn't have any particular illness in mind when creating it, they just kind of gave us a bunch of nasty looking symptoms.

Well yeah tthere's hair loss when you got a huge tumour or lesion or whateverthefuck where your hair is supposed to be.Arsonist wrote:Aye, looks painful.

That sounds extremely unlikely. How did you come to that conclusion?MariaRising wrote:Ick... Poor Mary. My guess is it's some kind of cancer and the effects are because of her treatment... Possibly experimental

Re: Mary's Disease Model
I can't remember where, but I read a big long something about her disease being a(n existing) form of tuberculosis that causes body-wide skin lesions, and is immune to most treatments for TB.
Anybody know what I'm talking about? I remember it made a lot of sense to me at the time.
