Even though that argument is used a lot nowadays, I completely agree with it. In fact, it's probably used so much in the case that it's actually TRUE. It angers me that it isn't really ever taken to heart, though. The argument seems pretty perfect, in my opinion. Parents should be monitoring what their kids are playing/watching, not the companies. I've actually never thought about the subject to the extent of "instead of doing the actual work to keep them away from it, they want to deprive everyone else of it as well." Okay, I'm done rambling now.Video Gamer wrote:The thing about that is most of the time, it's the parents worried about their kids seeing things like this. Although I agree that it would probably screw them up, it's the parent's job in the first place to keep them from it. But no, instead of doing the actual work to keep them away from it, they want to deprive everyone else of it as well.Varg6 wrote:But gee willers, ignorance is bliss right?acid_mobius wrote:Art should not be censored or banned.
Fuck this world.
God forbid people get offended, oh my Goodness!!!!!!
Everyone is so anxious to be pissed off about something. It kills me.

Ack. This mean's Yahtzee's not going to be able to review it (legally). D: He's a SH2 fan, too, and had low expectations for SSH. I wanted to see him praise it or tear it apart. >_< This sucks.
I also think I will never move to Australia. As an artist this kind of censorship really bothers me. Jesus, makes me happy American censorship isn't as harsh.

I didn't even think of that, this sucks. I love his reviews.Hannah wrote:Ack. This mean's Yahtzee's not going to be able to review it (legally). D: He's a SH2 fan, too, and had low expectations for SSH. I wanted to see him praise it or tear it apart. >_< This sucks.

I agree parents need to just stop complaining about violent video games, it's not like the game company is forcing them to play.
There are so many things that could prevent your kid from playing:
1. Parents supervising their kids on what they are playing.
2. Kids can't even purchase these games because they need to be of certain age.
3. There are parental controls on consoles now.

I may have a way-over reactive imagination, but when I first played SH3 I was a little scared of the dark and had nightmares. I was 12. Now, straight up banning it isn't really justified, but parents' wariness of the game would be.Video Gamer wrote:Although I agree that it would probably screw them up, it's the parent's job in the first place to keep them from it.

I hear he has a group of ninjas that can secure him games before they're released in Australia (see: Super Smash Brothers), so maybe he could get it sneaked in. There's hope.Amy wrote:Well, Yahtzee could always come over here and play it...and review it, right? I mean I've seen him on American TV so...?
Maybe.
I dunno. Maybe I'll e-mail him or something and hope for a reply.

It'd be quite unlikely that he'd praise Homecoming, Braid was a good game and I even think he thought so too but he still tore it apart, that's what makes him funny.Hannah wrote:Ack. The thing that worries me is that NZ might not get it now, we've got slightly less restrictive censorship on sexual content and I think violence as well but not by much... Then again we passed the uncensored version of GTA IV but because our supply was coming via Australia we also got the censored version.
:/ I'll cross my fingers.

The best argument against this for Australiens, imo, is "But it's not banned in America =(", becuase we all know were the crazy shit happens !
Can't blame Marilyn Manson for everything !
(Why don't they do like the Germans, color the blood green and say it's about aliens ^^)

Just on that note, did you hear about the Bill Henson saga that recently happened in Australia? It was the biggest load of crap and I was quite ashamed of my country. The man was absolutely villified.Hannah wrote:I also think I will never move to Australia. As an artist this kind of censorship really bothers me. Anywhoo, I am so pissed off right now. All because one premier that runs his state with his religion refuses to vote on an R18+ rating for video games. All the other states are completely for it.
Hopefully we'll get a slightly modified version like we did with GTAIV or Fallout 3. I'll take that if it means we get it.
Listen, all I want out of life is for my bank account to have 58,008 dollars in it, so that when I read my statement upside down, it says "BOOBS".

Holy hell, even I'm embarrassed for your country. >_< And I'm from the country of Westbro Baptist Church, Bill O'Rielly, and George W. Bush.Smoky wrote:Just on that note, did you hear about the Bill Henson saga that recently happened in Australia? It was the biggest load of crap and I was quite ashamed of my country. Everything fun is banned in your country. :(
>>>The Guy Game - but this game was pretty much banned to an underage gal who was was mistakenly used in the game.
It's not a completely unrealistic ban if it's depicting an underage girl in a sexual situation. Then it's just enforcing the law. This is more about censoring art (I refuse to call 'The Guy Game' art, ever) and whether or not Australia has lost it's damn mind.

Apparently Homecoming was banned for some very nasty-gory and violent scenes.

PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
"The violence is considered highly impactful in such scenes as where an electric drill is explicitly forced through Alex's right eye socket, remaining there for an extended period as Alex screams and blood sprays from the wound. There are several scenarios in which this means of death is used, on one occasion the drill being wielded by a zombie-nurse and on another by a woman named Margaret. In an alternative scenario, Alex turns the drill on his attacker and the drill is explicitly forced up through the woman's chin until she falls to the floor with the drill embedded in her skull."
