hmmm.

A Silent Hill anime or manga could work. Looking at shows like Higurashi, Monster and Berserk and mangas like 20th Century Boys, Blame! and Gunnma, serious stuff isn't new. They'D have to do it right, but that's true of anything, really.

Anyone seen the Death Note series? I'm thinking that kind of artwork and maybe similar music (if not them, then Yamaoka-genius-sama.)

I believe, if they already released 2 silent hill mangas, then they'll definitely make an anime someday too.
By the way, if you're looking for anime, similar to Silent Hill. i believe you should try PSYCHODIVER. All those religious cults and entering the other person's subconscious worlds are just like in SH. Maybe it could be sort of inspiration source for Team Silent back then...

I don't really like the idea of Silent Hill anime, I think it's enough that there are Silent Hill movie(s)

Or what about Legend of the Overfiend? Thats CERTAINLY not cute bunnies! In fact, didn't Team Silent take a bit of inspiration from LofO? Or Boogiepop Phantom (despite the cute name, it is a very dark anime). Even Studio Gibley's works aren't all cute kid's stories - look at Grave of the Firefly's (;_;)! There's also the stuff that people have mentioned, and much much more

I think a SH anime would work!

I don't know...the idea of this doesn't sound like a good one. I'd probably watch it though if it was ever made.

Although, I disagree with the TV Anime series. It seems like almost all Anime deals with cute bunnies and romance scenes. I doubt an anime series would be able to create a picture of a death/nightmarish world that actually made the viewers tremble.
You've not seen Boogiepop Phantom, I take it.

Yes. It has a cute title. Regardless, its a horror/sci-fi anime.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this, but I found this SH site with fan art. Some people drew some really nice picture and if you scroll down, there's some anime/manga drawings:

Has anyone found the source site for the OP picture? If not I could hunt down people on 4chan, I suppose. I love all the little elements in it, the artist had a really amusing composition. :3

If there's gonna be anime, then it should the comics. I'm guessing that the best format would be the kind they used for the Animatrix.

I don't know, Teimoshi. Personally I'm of the opinion that the comics, while some of them had amazing art, and might've been pretty good horror stories, weren't very in-line with being really Silent Hill. As standalones they were good, but trying to fit them into Silent Hill they fell short.

But then again I could be a purist snoot.

To the common observer, the plot elements don't seem to fit and are sometimes contradictory. But I believe that... one way or another, by simple, hard studying, one can manage to fit the pieces together.

For instance... I sense a connection between SH5 and the comic, Among the Damned. What that connection is... I don't know. But I'm quite sure there is one.

Nope, a anime wouldnt work for Silent Hill.
Not unless it was a really realistic art style anime.

hmm... what about the graphically violent anime style in Kill Bill Vol.1 or Afro Samurai?

or ninja scroll?

why can't it be an anime is the better question. Nothing in the medium restrict what the director or producer is trying to show since it can come across as they wish, it isn't something that is bound to reality where somethings just can't happen due to real life restrictions/budget/time.

I guess time will tell based on konami starting to come out with mangas on their cellphone network.

I just hope there will be a fansub group waiting for it's release and that it will be HD, divX format :D

I didn't like anime very much until I saw Death Note and ...wow i really love that series, in this anime there are diferrences in terms of beliefs and that's not the same but it is kinda similar to SH3. I agree with that kind of artwork for Silent Hill, I would recommend the artwork of Ergo Proxy too. And definitely Team Silent should direct the whole stuff.

I think an anime could definitely work for Silent Hill. Why wouldn't it? It makes no sense to negate an idea simply because of a medium. It's like saying a movie or comic book won't work. Say what you will about the movie, but I loved the hell out of it. It just needs to be approached with a certain amount of caution.

Plus the comics are a great example of Silent Hill falling flat on its face embarrassingly hard and being extremely good.

Look at the mindfuck that was the last couple episodes of Berserk. Now that new movies of that are coming out it's going to be even more terrifying and messed up.

If you've read the series of Berserk, think about the Eclipse and the Tower of Conviction. Those are easily some of the most fucked up things EVER (ok the Eclipse IS the most fucked up thing ever) that put a lot of things in Silent Hill to shame. Hell, it makes Silent Hill look like some unicorn valley rainbow princess shit in a lot of ways.

If that can be animated with some integrity, a Silent Hill anime is more than plausible and could be incredibly cool. I'd like to see a 3-4 episode OAV series, part of some form of the canon.

^ A 3-4 OAV series adapting SH2 and having it take place between the Silent Hill movie and Silent Hill Revelations would kick ass. At that point Silent Hill would be abandoned for the most part, and people could be drawn in easier. I have an idea for an adaption of SH4 that takes place int he movie-verse. Remember the psycho that takes a kid to SH and drops him in a shaft mentioned in the movie? Smells like Sullivan.
