Samples used by Akira Yamaoka

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
I feel like it would be simple to document the samples used in each song instead saying what they play in.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Has anyone found this sample used in the first movie? http://www.mediafire.com/listen/z7w7965 ... amples.mp3
I'm pretty sure Danna combined "Nothing Else" with another Yamaoka track here. Also how about the higher frequency sound at 7 seconds that accompanies the previous sample?
Finally does anyone know where this choir sample comes from? (spoilers for Until Dawn videogame) https://youtu.be/U4UJ5D9JBLw?t=15m48s (at 15:54). The same sample was used for the church massacre track.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
You linked the same links. The choir sample I think comes from Symphony of Voices by Spectrasoncis

Ups my bad, corrected. The copy link button is bugged. -.- I'll make sure to search Spectrasonics then.
Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Actually, the choir sample is from Distorted Reality 1. I'm not exactly sure, but it's some combination or just one of the 3 samples in the GOTHIC CHOIR patch, at a lower pitch.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
IN EXCELIO turned out being the choir that was used here: https://youtu.be/nH-VohRJCos?t=4m36s. REQUIEM seems to be it, it was right under my nose, thank you. It seems REQUIEM in a bit higher pitch than the one I wanted was also used in combination with IN EXCELIO and LULU BOY in "Dark Alessa"
Edit: Lol SANCTUS was also used for "Dark Alessa" just before IN EXCELIO.

Can anyone help place this? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/484 ... 0f67a8.wav
I've been through all the SH games and even Shadows of the Damned, but I can't find it. Am I just confusing it with something else?

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
It's from that one soundscan library that has been miss labeled as BFAs Ambient Atmospheres.
It's "BEAUTY06"

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Yeah (Well, actually, it's "COMPOSITE2"). But I was wondering if anyone recognize it from any SH game, because it sounds so familiar and SH-esque.
Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Oh. Nope
Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Hey peeps, has anyone got the samples from Claw Finger by any chance? (Not sure if it's one or two, but sounds like two)
I'm after that bell-organ-ish sound, the attacky one. The other sample sounds more airy and less attacky, but very similar so not sure...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Ooh, I've been wanting to find its samples (well, it's just one actually) for the longest time myself. It feels like it's just a cut from a longer ambience that I've heard somewhere, but I really can't remember what/where if so. Kind of annoying. :p
Anyway, here's the sample taken from the game (sample rate might be off):

Nice one Nisto!
I need to find libraries with ambient sounds like this, or the Ambient FX from White Noiz. But what I would like even more is to know how these samples are created?! Synth? Live? Loads of stuff mixed together - but kept in tune + loads of reverb?
Some of them sound so out of this world it's amazing.

For a lot of that ambient stuff, especially pads, it's all about the reverb. For example, most of those Bizarre Guitar pads are the result of running a guitar through tons of reverb, hitting a chord, and sampling/looping the reverb tail.jdnoidea9 wrote:Nice one Nisto!

If anyone's interested, here's a handful of Silent Hill 2-inspired pads that I made from scratch to use in my own music: http://www.mediafire.com/download/e3te9 ... amples.rar
I basically just used simple waveforms, aggressive filtering, and lots of reverb. I played a chord and sampled/looped the reverb tail. Then I took those samples and played around with the pitch. That kind of stuff is pretty easy.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
@VIVISect those are very cool! Thanks for sharing. I especially like AMBI_LOOP_70bpm. It also reminded me a bit of this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on-mdT9OgJU
Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
^Thanks Nisto! Hey, the opening of that track does sound pretty similar. Ha! If you ever want to use those samples for anything, feel free.

Here Eric Persing talks a little about how he created some sounds from his Spectrasonics lybraries: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul00/articles/eric.htmI need to find libraries with ambient sounds like this, or the Ambient FX from White Noiz. Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Anyone here interested in MIDIs for the first three games? I wrote a converter, but you'll have to get the .KDT files out of the games yourselves.
