another movie reference - THE SECT, 1991

Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

another movie reference - THE SECT, 1991

Post by chainsawmax »

hey everyone - I thought to update the list with this piece of info but I found out F is long gone, so here I am. Hopefully you'll find it insightful as I did...

THE SECT is a 1991 movie by Michele Soavi, co-written by Dario Argento.
I first saw it in 1998 - one year prior to my entrance in SH, but for some reason all the references slipped my mind at the time. I recently watched it again (10 years later... crazy how time flies by) and I was stunned.

The overall tone is that of the SH series and also the plot involves obvious elements from it, but there's a few key scenes that all of you should know about (I reccommend you all watch the move before learning about these...)
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
at a certain point in the movie it starts to snow. but - it's not snow, and the sun is shining. turns out it's stuff coming out of the blossoms of flowers...

the main character in the movie is driving home with her car and a passenger on the other seat, while their car gets surpassed by a motorbike. It looks EXACTLY like the intro scene in SH.

hospital scenes... HOSPITAL scenes...

the ending scene with the high flames.

the trippy music which sometimes is totally off, bears clear resemblances to the SH soundtrack in a few moments.

there's a scene involving a cellar... and a pit... and A BUNNY...ok, nuff said!
I found it toally enjoyable as a movie and I just learned that there's a few other movies from the same period by Soavi, notably THE CHURCH... gonna investigate and report. In any case it's clear that this movie was once again an influence on the makers of SH, and I think it should be added to the list of references!!!

Watch this one if you have a chance!
