SH1 was considered for the PlayStation Classic release

Post by jdnation »

The PlayStation mini was released by Sony with a bunch of games.

Silent Hill was not one of them, but was included in a list of possibilities, but it seems that it along with several other games didn't make the cut for some reason.

Some data was found in the PS Classic itself that Sony was testing it.

games that were tested on the PSC by Sony but didn't make it to release

- Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
- Medievil
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
- Medal of Honor
- Vagrant Story
- Tomba
- Crash Bandicoot
- Suikoden
- Mega Man Legends
- Kagero
- Xevious 3D
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skateboarding (THPS1)
- Tomb Raider
- Tomb Raider II
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Street Fighter EX Plus
- Silent Hill
- Ridge Racer
- Ray Storm
- Parappa the Rappa
- Mr. Driller G
- Kula World
- Klonoa: Door to Phantomville

Lame. This could have been way better in so many ways.

Not especially convinced they'd fix the glitchy nature of the SH1 digital release anyways.

In another oddity, it seems the PS4 Medevil remake has a somewhat functional PSOne emulator. Here's a hack playing Silent Hill.

Good thing my original PS is still working so I don't need to mess with emulation if I want to play it again

It deserved a place and would have improved the console. I also would have preferred the original release of Resident Evil over the director's cut.

Is the director's cut of RE1 the one with that hilariously awful basement music?

Yeah the director's cut is the version with the basement theme being comprised of a bunch of trumpets playing together off key sounding like it was composed on the fly. I find it hilarious and have no idea why they didn't just reuse the original.

There was a really bizarre controversy with the original RE1 music composer. Turned out he was a complete fraud and he hired someone else to make the music. I'm assuming that's why hah.

Wow, I've never heard about this until now. I know he was losing his hearing and people joked about that being why the basement theme was so terrible, but I didn't know he hired others to make music.

Yeah, it's quite the betrayal.

Imagine finding out Yamaoka did this with Silent Hill 1 and 2? I'd be pissed.

Then the music in SH1 and 2 gets replaced by pinball and pachinko music. Hell yeah.

For a company that so regularly prioritizes and does a great job of servicing brand affinity, it's definitely a surprise to me how badly the fumbled their classic console.

I'd certainly put Silent Hill in the company of IP that snuggle down the feeling of classic PlayStation gaming in its formative years.

Maybe we're biased but yeah, I feel the same. It was a bizarre choice.

I feel the same. At least when thinking of PS1 Style graphics and stuff, Silent Hill is one of the games thats at the forefront imo.
