Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

Christian Review

Okay so I'm not Christian and I have no problem with people who are Christian. I just found this while I was looking for Silent Hill stuff and I thought it was kind of humerous the way that the reviewer tells you to play this game as a "Learning Tool" about cults, satan, etc. rather than "Just For Fun". I also find it funny that he brings up the number of occult symbols seen in the game, yet you would think that with the game being based around a town that had a cult as it's religion that you would find occult symbols in various places. But yeah, everyones entitled to thier own opinions

One time I read on a Christian Review site that the person who played the game thoroughly enjoyed it and recommended it to others. If I can find the site again, I'll post the link. It just made me laugh how much this guy obviously loved the game. Silent hIll corrupts ;)

Remember, it's the extremists who ruin all the fun for the rest of us. No matter if it's a religion, a game fandom, or fans of a band.

Yaaaay 1-5 VERY OFFENSIVE!!! heeee..Gah I love that.

"but ONLY if it is used as a witnessing tool, or as a learning tool. DO NOT under ANY circumstances play it as "just for fun". Use it for good."

Excuse me. How the FUCK would a evangelical chrisital use this as a witnessing tool? I don't think Christians are morons. I know many morons who are christians, but being a christian does not make you a moron. I'm an spiritual agnostic. And you know what? I believe what I believe. Christians believe what they believe. Same with all other religions.

However...it is statements like using SH1 as a witnessing tool that is disturbing. I don't believe anyonje should thrust their religion on others. And basically that is what they are telling their readers to do.

". I do not recommend this game for the physically or spiritually weak"

Well hell. I guess I'm going to hell. Who is going with me?!!!

EDIT:

HEre is the review for sh2 http://christiananswers.net/spotlight/g ... hill2.html He says there is no character development. WTF.

SH4: http://christiananswers.net/spotlight/g ... eroom.html A game that will offended practically everyone.

I'm trying to find the SH3 review which should be good, because this reviewer refers to SH3 as Blasphemous!

I hope there's no religious debate here. Or bashing, or anything--bear in mind what Kriss said.

I thought they gave a pretty good reviews overall. Yes they might have said that SH has nothing to do with improving one's Christianity, but they did say the gameplay was good and at least about a man conquering evil.
I felt 'safe'

There's no bashing here.

Except for someone calling myself and half of the board members morons.

I'm a Christian, and I don't in the least approve of those kinds of Christians. The people who run that site, and are offended by basically everything, are morons and need to get the fuck over themselves, it's true.

However, I also think anyone who is offended by that site should get the fuck over themselves as well. Venting your moral outrage over their fringe opinion, and damning all Christians for mere affiliation, just proves that you're as reactionary, idiotic, and intolerant as they are.

"Overall the game serves no purpose but to scare you to death and leave you utterly disturbed, which it does a very good job of.

I like this review. I agree.(From a "Christian" point of view   )
love this game-- in fact, it is one of my favorite games of all time. The purpose, of course, is to scare you, since that's what type of game it is. But there is a deeper meaning to this game, in fact, there are several. It focuses on psychological decay and how a man overcomes it, and it focuses on overcoming darkness and corruption. Now yes, the game is full of the occult, but just because it has occult in it doesn't mean its saying "succumb to the devil." The occult just states that yes the town has become evil due to the evil intentions of those that are in it and the evil intentions of those who made it that way. Your mission is at first to find your daughter, but there is later a subconscious mission of the main character to overcome the madness that he has found in the bowels of the mutated town and escape with his daughter. The storyline focuses a lot around the dipping in and out of reality-- the town, in fact, is a living nightmare of a girl with strange powers. The main character, Harry, finds this out when he is constantly going in and out of this nightmare world. The town's darkness obviously effects him through his "adventure," but in the end, the light prevails over the darkness--if you get the good ending, that is (there are several endings that you can get depending on what you accomplish during the game.) The good ending is generally the way the game should end, in that Harry's daughter, Cheryl, is in fact the lost half of the soul of a girl names Alessa, who was used in Dark Rituals in the bowels of a corrupted hospital. However, the two souls join as one at the end of the game, and she becomes an all powerful being that her mother dubs as "the mother of God." However, she is really a host for the demon "Samael," who has infested the town through her nightmares and the evil intentions of those who used the girl. You end up fighting this demon, and when it is defeated, you see the good in the game. Alessa (the real Cheryl) is free of the demon, and she is now an angel, and in the freeing of evil, a new child is born, one that Alessa gives to Harry to start a new life with. Thus, Harry has overcome the darkness of the town by defeating the main demon and coming in contact with the angel that Alessa was meant to be. So, there is nothing "Satanic" about this game, and there is nothing the pressures the occult on anyone. I do recommend this game for all Christians, even though I am not one, because it focuses on destroying darkness from the bowels of darkness. It says that light can only be found in darkness, and once you reach that light, you will overcome darkness. It is a good teaching, I believe, for many Christians and even their children (although children should not be presented this game until they are teenagers due to the violence in the game). As a non Christian, I love the disturbing nature of the game because it gets me scared, and I love to be scared-- but just because I am not Christian doesn't mean that I don't see the goodness in the game and what it presents. And what it presents is very positive, and something that not only Christians should learn but that society should learn in general.
--Brian, age 16, non-Christian
and this one is downright laughable:
I bought this game before becoming a Christian. While I did enjoy it quite a bit when I was not serving the Lord, I'm at the point where I'm about to get rid of it. Every part of this game is inspired by different forms of the occult. While I didn't catch a lot of the references before, I've come to see what inspired a lot of the game play through a little research. I will say the game is very addictive once you start playing. I could hardly stop play for the first few weeks I owned it. Unfortunately, the game is unbelievably dark, and it never seems to let up. I remember being shaky for a little while after each time I played it. My brother refused to even be in the room while I played it due to how disturbing it was. Overall, I'd have to say that this is, without a doubt, a game which no Christian should have anything to do with. My Ratings: [1/4]

>"small knife-wielding demon babies"
Haha... This is great.

I am a former Christian-ahem-and I am always surprised at how offended they can get by the occult. I'm not saying that all Christians are like this, but apparently, some are. What more can be said? To each their own.

Anything spoken of that doesn't go along the lines of the topic (and I mean the review for the game and Christians....) will be removed.

I think the person who made the review is right... I've knew people who have been affected by anime series and games so I think those people wouldn't play Silent Hill or we can get a crazy stupid waving a pipe innthe middle of a dark street...

I am christian (Not religious, neither fanatic) and I think that we can enjpoy all that exist in this world in the appropiated dosis, if don't allow that anything affect your life you are fine... I love the sci-fi, the horror, the fiction, the rock, the games, the anime and more... I had a lot of problems with my christian mother cause she didn't think that these things wopuld be appropiated for me but I never was affected by this... I just enjoy and ahad good times with them... I think this should be the attitude for any hobby...

Maybe the only that we could try to apply in our lives is the love that Harry feels for Cheryl, this love helped him to surpass all the nightmare that he lived... Yay for Harry!!!

I agree with hometown, anyone who gets affected by animated blood OBVIOUSLY has something else going on in their lives.

And by something else, I mean stupidity.

I dont think they would say they were effected because they were stupid.

I think it would be used as a scapegoat, ala Twinkie Defense.

It should be illegal for Christians to buy video games, let alone use the internet.

Well, keep in mind that all of the Christians that reviewed it below that guy gave it "Positive", of course all are entitled to their own opinions, but where do you draw the line between healthy religious beliefs that dont affect your judgement (most people get it right and put, life and religion as 2 different entities) and domination by your religion (centering everything around Relgion including your enjoyment of video games....)

I know plenty of Christians and respect them for their beliefs, but that review was a example of what I said above, "Alone in the Town" knows what he/she's talking about which is refreshing.

I don't think that is very fair, because i started on SH as a Christian. Not too mention other things I watched/played. The people who posted in those reviews and the person that did the review do not speak for all Christians or Christianity as a whole.

I agree. I am a Christian...Lutheran to be exact. I love the SH games as if they were my offspring. I love them for thier artistic flair, symbolism, visuals, story and scare factor. I love these games down to the last gore ridden floor.

I respect others beliefs and opinions (as long as they arent full of biggotist remarks), Frozen.....that was a wee bit over the edge my friend.

I take the games as what they are -- entertainment and a damn good story, but nothing I would live my life by. While there are certainly impressionable people out there who could take the games to extremes, people should realize that little pixelated cult symbols are not really anything to make you suddenly want to become a satanist.
