Schrödinger's cat (Related to SH1?)

Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

Schrödinger's cat (Related to SH1?)

Post by Eileen Scarlette »

I dont think I saw a thread like this before, If it has been done already Im so sorry :(
Ok, so I got to know about this paradox of the cat while watching a movie and I got curious about it, I want to know your opinion, is it related or is not related to the events in SH1...heres the theory:

"A cat is placed in a box, together with a radioactive atom. If the atom decays, and the geiger-counter detects an alpha particle, the hammer hits a flask of prussic acid (HCN), killing the cat. The paradox lies in the clever coupling of quantum and classical domains. Before the observer opens the box, the cat's fate is tied to the wave function of the atom, which is itself in a superposition of decayed and undecayed states. Thus, said Schroedinger, the cat must itself be in a superposition of dead and alive states before the observer opens the box, ``observes'' the cat, and ``collapses'' it's wave function"

In SH1 theres this scene (midwich elementary school) where Harry hears some noises coming from a locker, when you approach the locker and you open it for the first time a cat jumps out and runs, and in the alternate reality you open again the locker and the cat is dead, the theory seems to talk about two possibilities in two parallel realities depends of who opens the box and when, so what you guys think? Or am I just paranoid? :D

Yeah, and scientifically glorified too!
What did Henry comment when he found the dead cat? Anyone knows? I haven't played SH1 very much and last time was ages ago.

If I recall correctly, Harry's responses were "just a cat" and "it's empty."

I've seen this theory around before. I think the scene was included to allude the player that there's an alternate reality dealio going on.

I never thought about it that way before. Nice theory though and I wouldn't put it passed the designers to make a reference like that.
"Salem, you are wrong. You are wrong because you are seeing it from a different point of view."- Someone on another forum.

But yeah... that pretty much sums me up.

Extremley interesting theory, Elieen! You, my pretty lady, has found a phonomonal (sorry if the spelling is off!) find!
Ya' know, if you keep looking at Pyramid Head, you're destined to see red.

Definitely maybe a reference to that book! Sadly Ive not played SH1 yet so I cannot comment more. From the scene you describe - if they come from the same locker, it would be a good hail to this paradox.

Alive in one reality and dead in the other at the same time.

Nice original theory, I personally don't believe there is much to this scene because when I first played it that was the moment I realized that there were in fact two separate realities.

Yes, exactly like that, but its not a book. Its a quantum physics theory

Well youre right, thats the main reason (I believe) the player must know that hes playing in two realities, I know its pretty simple when youre playing, what I found curious its the meaning behind that, and that the creators were bringing this theory which is real and very controversial.

I couldn't imagine the programmers going that in depth just for a 30 second CS. It's still something very awesome to think about even if it's not true. I mean thats what Silent Hill is all about :D

Thank you, at first I thought that I was hallucinating, but I guess it makes pretty much sense.

Well technically the theory spurned the trilogy of the same name by Robert Anton Wilson who is a really really interesting fellow! I'd hope that a reference could include him too.

i don't think that you can apply this to the cat... C'mon, sometimes SH fans superoveranalyze

Except it's a very obvious implication. I don't see how it's overanalyzing. Two dimensions/quantum states, one cat dies, one lives...

It's pretty straightforward.
