There might be some pass with Cybil that weren't mentioned in this movie. We know she had a history involving a child and this seems to be significant because it was mention several times (but never really expanded on). So we know Cybil has a deeper history with Silent Hill than just this time. She might have sinned then but I personally believed Cybil is a good person. if anything, Cybil is more like a martyr. She has to die to save everone else.
Although this is the first time we see Cybil (as in see her in this movie), this could just be the end of her own personal saga.
Maybe more will be explained in a sequal or something.

yes. there were only two scenes where I felt uncomfortable: the burning of alessa and the burning of cybil. Death by fire is one of the most horrid ways to go, and I hated seeing her go that way. I really loved her character in the film.

I didn't much like Cybil at first. She handcuffed the protagonist, after all. And, yes, When we get more of her background, we understand why she did that, but it still sort of bothered me. Not only that, but she didn't even uncuff Rose after the road fell away into a deep chasm, nor when the first monster appeared in the Road.
I think it was perfectly sane to disbelieve Rose at first, as what she was saying would be hard to swallow in most cases, but, after the road and extreamly deformed monster lurched onto the screen, she should have taken the cuffs off right away. If not simply because Cybil had clearly been wrong in cuffing Rose at that point, but thats also a situation where one needs all the back up and support one can get.
Of course later, she does uncuff Rose, she redeems hereself, in my eyes anyway.
Story wise, thoughg, I think the cuffing added drama and tension, what with Rose being unable to fully use her hands and all. Plus, being mistrustful of Cybil gave her a legitimate reason to head back into town alone, as opposed to the games were people split up for no meaningful reason.

I thought it was great that Cybil didn't un-cuff Rose, I think they meant to do this to get everyone nervous when Rose runs off and then finds her self face to face with the Janitor. Oh man did I feel bad for her in the end I wanted to cry because of her death. Oh man did I have a hard time watching that.
I loved Cybil. I think the most heartbreaking part of the game was watching her... in that time before she caught fire, and you could see the fumes around her face, and how anguished she looked. And when she cried to them, not to leave her alone but to not make Sharon watch, it sealed it. What a noble soul. Her death disturbed me more than anything else in the whole movie, and I kept wanting them to bring her back somehow... make it a dream, or have her pulled from the flames at the last minute. But she's dead, and that's one among many reasons why this is a great series. They play for keeps.
To me, Cybil is the only character that I feel connected with. In my opinion, she's the only character who has any kind of development/revelation that doesn't feel "too made up" in this film.
Laurie acted well, though I really wish they didn't spike her hair up that much.

I had a bit of issue with her in the beginning after how she treated Rose. Yes, I can understand her gut instinct on the situation but after those first few moments, she should have come to her senses unless she was still adjusting to the shock of the world around her. Then again I'm arguing about a plot device. A plot device that allowed Rose to explore further and bring Cybil back into play later on.
I was truly ticked when they killed Cybill. I really didn't want to see her go in the long run and again that was a painful moment to watch, even as she was shouting at Sharon.

I have been busted by a female cop for something I didn't do, and I think Cybil's treatment to Rose was very similiar to what I got, so I didn't hate Cybil because of that.

I'm not saying I hated her for it. She did what she did on gut. She saw issue with Rose, which is partially to blame on Rose's end and partially to blame on Cybil's own. The two were very much in the moment of the action and focused on survivial.
Same with the sudden transition with who is truly in charge with the characters after they have the encounter with PH.

Me too. I feel it would have added more drama to the movie, if they made Cybil’s death the same as the game, where Cybil becomes possess, then suddenly attacks Rose, so Rose has no choice but to defend herself and ends up killing Cybil.Drewfus wrote:I still prefer her death from the game.
