Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Played Short Message for a bit and recognized a couple sounds right off. Actually noticed one before even starting the game. The main atmosphere/pad sound in the menu music (the PS5 menu, when you select the game) is from the Loopmasters library Aethers 01. And early on in the game there's a distort...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Speaking of The Medium’s soundtrack, I still get a kick out of the fact that I mentioned two different sample libraries in this thread (Darkness: Cinematic Sound Design from Big Fish Audio and Dark Skies from Zero-G) as sounding “like something Yamaoka would use.” Sure enough, he ended up using both...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Arkadiusz Reikowski announced that he’s “involved” with the SH2 remake. Honestly I just expect them to mostly reuse Yamaoka’s original work with some new stuff by Yamaoka/Reikowski tossed in. In that case… meh. Not really a fan of that other guy’s stuff.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
^Thanks for that! Sorry for being mia from this thread for so long. Glad to see you guys are keeping things going! I haven't been intentionally looking for SH related stuff for a long while, but recently I was digging through a random old library and ran across the beat for Walk on Vanity Ruins (sor...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Yeah that's pretty neat. I thought it had good fitting sound as well for the series. Though I personally found that library lacking in variety and rhythm (if rhythm matters anymore) and uses a lot of high tone sounds. Yeah, I ended up being not particularly crazy about that library either. I like s...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
I listened to the new Yamaoka track for The Medium, The Maw, and I noticed some drum loops from Big Fish Audio's Darkness: Cinematic Sound Design. Figured that he'd end up using that library if he ever returned to Silent Hill. Heh

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Don't know how much interest there is in this (since the movie is godawful), but since the Silent Hill OSTs are back on Spotify, I gave the Revelations soundtrack a quick listen for the first time. Noticed some stuff from the Zero-G library Dark Skies, particularly in the "Heather in the Fog Wo...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
He's saying that he's glad he got it before people starting trying to sell it for such absurd amounts.
It's funny that he specifically mentions Silent Hill in the listing. He probably found out about it from this thread. lol

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
An user called "Agustin Mattioli" have reported me that he found the sample that sounds when you press back (circle button) when you go back to the main menu of Silent Hill 2 come from the Zero-G library "Tremors Drum and Bass", the sample is called "Eightball Riff". H...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Hey guys, I just released a video talking about the samples of Silent Hill, and it wouldn't be possible if this topic didn't existed, so I mentioned it in the video, I hope there is no a problem with it! Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygAwlFZN8Hg You did a remarkable job with th...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Sorry for the late reply, but the version I have has all the tracks labeled. I took a couple of screenshots if you're still needing the names.BlockMind wrote:does anyone have the name for the samples in this library?

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
I imagine that's one of those beats that's been sampled tons of times by different producers. Kinda like the Null Moon beat. It's originally from the Michael Jackson cover of Ain't No Sunshine. I've heard variations of that beat in numerous sample libraries.

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Anyone know if the drums in this track are Akira actually playing them live or just a loop? Either way I love the drums, so smooth... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5HAbkJZtJk Yeah, it's almost certainly a loop from somewhere. I love those types of breaks, too. Check out the "Laid Back Break...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Halfsies anyone? I don't live in the US so shipping would be quite expensive... I would seriously consider it if I weren't so ridiculously broke right now. I'll add the auction to my "watch" list to see if the price drops any. The time on that action is about to run out, but I imagine tha...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
I also noticed a difference between the old Eastwest version of Twisted Textures compared to the newer Beatport release.
There's a physical Audio CD copy on eBay right now. Seller is including the AKAI version as a bonus. But it's $57. Too rich for me!

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
In the Sound Ideas "Foley Footsteps" library, each track is one "style" of footstep (footsteps on a particular surface, such as carpet, wood, metal grating) with variations (light/hard steps, running, turning around, etc.). I imagine that Yamaoka would have just grabbed a couple ...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
I've also always been curious about the footsteps. The video says that he "created" hundreds of footstep sounds for the characters, but, knowing what we know, I think it's a safe bet that Yamaoka didn't actually record any of those sounds himself. They probably all came from sample librari...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Honestly I think they just took a shot of Yamaoka playing something on his synthesizer and layered those sound effects over it for the video. It doesn't sound like the sounds were captured live, being played through Yamaoka's monitors or anything. Also, Yamaoka is playing an old Roland JD-800, which...

Re: Samples used by Akira Yamaoka
Oh hey, I used to have that library! I remember getting it just because of the cover. lol I never payed much attention to it, though. I still have some other Sonic Reality libraries. They released most of their libraries in Reason Refill format, and back when I was a Reason user, I was constantly co...
