The strange thing about the weapon system in SH:O is that they claimed to be making it more realistic. This is true to some extent, with flimsy items such as the broken wood etc., but there's no way a human being could exert enough blunt force on one of those wrenches to break it without seriously i...

Surely the most obvious inspiration is Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, especially seeing as the previous work, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, is cited both directly and indirectly in SH1.

The sirens Travis hears, however, are from the fire trucks. This is true, but you have to remember who else was listening to those real fire trucks for the first time... As a memorable part of her defining traumatic experience, it's only natural that Alessa would incorporate those real sounds into ...

I do remember reading that SH2 utilised a form of sound technology (inaudible frequencies) that are known to promote minor visual hallucinations though... I'm going to have to hear more about that. Tell me if you don't mind. Believe me, I'm trying to wrack my brain for the source of that little nug...

I've never seen them move, but the whole setting is definitely geared to make you expect it to happen.

I actually made a post relating to this subject a couple of years ago, although my focus was on another element. Just before you meet Maria there's an identical pedestal set back into the hedge with NO statue on it at all. My thoughts at the time (as through to the present day) were that maybe it wa...

Obviously, Walter created the items. Everything is pretty much under his absolute control, except creatures and victims. To an extent that's true. Obviously everything within the worlds are created by Walter in the sense that they're essentially products of his mind, but it's also clear that he doe...

The point no one has has thus far, and the actual cause of this entire issue, is the nature of the Australian classification system. For some stupid reason that nobody has ever provided a reasonable answer to, and which a government committee is currently holding under review, there is no R18+ ratin...

While not as inherently interesting as the Forest or Water Prison levels, I had no problem with the Building World from an aesthetic standpoint. Some of the areas such as the shop with the clock and the birthday-cake room were quite interesting. From a gameplay standpoint it can be a nightmare on th...

Very good point! I'm a long-time Giger fan, so I can't believe I didn't pick up on it before. It is indeed very similar, and Giger does a lot of work with deformed baby-like faces such as those in it.

Well done.

Meanwhile, back to the topic at hand... Besides my general positive reaction to this new look, especially seeing the Gillespie house in flames in what looks to be a playable sequence, there were two little things which I particularly liked. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but at one point Travi...

Thanks, I just re-read the victim file. I wonder why Walter went to all the trouble of setting up the cake for his birthday. It's pretty sadistic even for him, and generally his behavior indicates a desire to get the 10 Hearts part of the ritual done with minimal fuss...

There's a birthday cake in the room where one of the Victims is lurking, so I just assumed that Walter killed him there on his birthday. Judging from the decor etc it's probably his mother's house, so there they are sitting down to cut the cake when Walter bursts in and butchers him.

Yeah I agree. Ideally the two topics should be dealt with in separate threads before they are combined- ie 'Was Angela Sexually Abused' and 'What Does the 'Father' Creature Represent'. We're going to keep clashing heads on ideas if you tend to cite evidence outside of the games, too. Unlike most, ap...

I'm wasn't aware that I was saying it was the first ten victims. That first report clearly indicates that it's referring to the six victims we see in the course of the game- Cynthia, Jasper, Andrew, Richard, Eileen, and Henry (odd that it makes special mention of only one woman though). Presumably t...
